Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Kuro Tarangire is an eco-friendly dry seasonal camp, set in a grove of acacia trees, in the central part of Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, within easy reach of the main river and Silale and Gursi Swamps.

You won't find a more stunning setting for a camp than right in the middle of Tarangire National Park, a stone's throw from the banks of the Tarangire River. This unique spot is the opportune place for watching wildlife strolling leisurely from the hills in the west to the swamps in the east whilst sipping sundowners on the veranda of your tent. Here huge herds of elephant are drawn to the water during the dry season and the camp offers wonderful walking safaris as well as game and night drives in open 4WD vehicles.

The camp is small and secluded, with only six tents, providing you with ultimate privacy and peace. Each of these tents is equipped with a comfortable big bed, en-suite indoor and out door bucket shower and flushing toilet. The stylish and comfortable tents and open-sided thatched lounge and dining area provide an eco-friendly haven, leaving no trace of its existence behind when it moves on at the end of the season.

Whether you're looking to relax at the camp gazing out at the beautiful landscape dotted with Baobab trees, or head out into the bush in search of the elusive leopard or the huge herds of buffalo, Kuro Tarangire is the place to head to if what you are looking for is a truly authentic bush experience.

Kuro Tarangire is a dry season camp open between June and Mid March; the time of hot days and cool nights and prime time for the elephant migration which fills the park and offers some superb wildlife viewing.

Beautiful bush camp in Tarangire National Park. Coming back from a really fun and informative game drive to this camp cannot be beaten. Although it is rustic you have everything you could want. Extremely comfortable beds in a beautiful camp which really nails the perfect balance between luxury and authenticity. From here you can do night drives and walks. Do make sure these are booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Kuro is one of my favourite "bush camps" in Tanzania. Whilst quite simple and with a very open mess area, they've somehow managed to make it feel incredibly cosy. The first rains hit hard during our stay but this in no way dampened the mood (excuse the pun) and the staff really pulled out all the stops to make sure that we still had a fantastic time.

I'd always been under the illusion that Tarangire is fantastic for elephants, but that there's not much of anything else. However, at Kuro we were treated to more than one leopard sighting, as well as a rare serval and, of course, some spectacular elephant herds. The tsetses can be a bit of a pain in this park, but there are none in camp and the guides know exactly where to head to steer clear of them!

  • Game drive in the Serengeti

Explore the vast grasslands of the Serengeti with your safari guide on game drives in the early morning and late afternoon. This is one of the most famous national parks in Africa, and it's easy to see why.

  • Hot Air Balloon over the Tarangire National Park

Take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the Tarangire National Park for a totally unique experience that will make your trip that bit more memorable as you look down on the bush from above whilst the sun rises.

  • Night Drives in the Tarangire

Night drives are an experience which is not permitted in many of the national parks of Tanzania. In the Tarangire, however, you can head out with your guide, searching the inky dark with a spotlight. This is when the drama ramps up in the African bush.

  • Search for the migration herds

One of Africa's most iconic moments - the migration of two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles around the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosystem.

  • Wildlife in the Tarangire

Tarangire is second only to the Serengeti for the concentration of game. It's an area of big breeding herds of elephant and buffalo. Huge baobabs provide shade for sleeping lion and night drives give the opportunity to see elusive leopard on the prowl.
