Situated only 6° south of the equator, Mafia Island enjoys ideal holiday weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.
There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.
If you are travelling between November and February you may be lucky enough to snorkel with whalesharks which congregate in the waters off the Mafia islands during these months.

Description
Fanjove Private Island has just six rustic en suite thatched banda cottages on the private island which is located within the Songosongo Archipelago. The cottages are dotted along the white sand beach looking out to the turquoise ocean.
Arrive onto the Robinson Crusoe-esque island of Fanjove for a truly remote and exclusive beach experience off the coast of mainland Tanzania. The Songo Songo Archipelago is comprised of just 6 small islands and Fanjove island is dedicated purely to this small intimate lodge with only 6 rustic beach front bandas. This bare foot luxury, exquisite setting boasts soft white powdered beaches, clear turquoise waters and intact coral reefs that span for miles.
These eco friendly private bandas are set along the sandy shores, with stunning views out to sea from your bed and your personal upstairs balcony. In order to minimise environmental impact, rooms are run using solar power and are built using sustainable materials such as palm leaves and traditional local wood.
Fanjove Island is part of the Selous Safari Company portfolio so service and dining is a key part of your stay, enjoy freshly caught fish on the beach or indulge in their well known curries under the starry night sky. For an extra special experience, request sundowner drinks from the top of the nearby 19th century tree house.
