Offering warm temperatures throughout the year the Caribbean is a perfect year round destination. With an average of 9 hours sunshine a day the peak season runs from December through to April which is the dry season when you can expect very little rainfall. May to November are the slightly wetter months where you will find an increase in rainfall as the summer season goes on and with that some humidity, however the Summer months are still a great time to travel as the temperatures are hot and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts but not all day long. The wettest months with the most humidity are September and October and these are the most probable months for hurricanes to occur in the region although many islands have not experienced hurricanes for a number of years. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-seventies in the winter months and mid-eighties in the summertime.

Set on the beautiful Friendship Beach on the little frequented island of Bequia, the boutique Bequia Beach Hotel is perfect for those after a unique and authentic Caribbean experience. It offers five star services, friendly staff, elegance and charm.
Bequia Beach Hotel, (pronounced Bek-way), is a little jewel in the Caribbean, relatively unknown and a real treat for those seeking a boutique and untouched Caribbean experience. The island itself is the second largest in the Grenadines at just 7 miles square, with lush vegetation and beautiful beaches - perfect for both land and water based activities.
The 44 room hotel is a real labour of love, recently completed by a Swedish owner who stumbled upon Bequia when sailing many years ago. It is an understated property that oozes colonial Caribbean charm and is reminiscent of 1950s Caribbean glamour with its beautifully appointed rooms. The hotel sits amidst an almond forest, with lush gardens leading to a stunning beach, practically deserted save for a few fishing families. The hotel's quiet surroundings are ideal for couples and honeymooners.
Lazy days by one of the pools or on the beach are the order of the day here. In the evening, guests can enjoy a delicious dinner usually involving freshly caught lobster or seafood at the open air Bagatelle restaurant where the ocean can be heard and the breeze is a welcome break from the heat.
For guests wanting to explore the island it is very safe to do so and there are many activities such as hikes to view points and other beaches on the island, private picnics on deserted beaches, or a snorkelling trip to the stunning Tobago Cays. Visit the Turtle Sanctuary or soak up the local life at Port Elizabeth and enjoy one of the local restaurants and chat with the very friendly locals.
Back at the hotel in the evening there are often local bands to entertain you and Tapas evenings are enjoyed on certain days.

Bequia captured me like no other place has before. Having visited all of the Grenadines islands this was the most charming and authentic and its people play a huge role in that. The island is only seven square miles yet its steep, hilly and narrow windy roads make it feel larger. Life revolves around the hub of Port Elizabeth where supplies to the island arrive almost daily along with ferries servicing locals and visitors from St Vincent or neighbouring islands.
We were collected at the port in an open side van that has been converted into a taxi, a great way to embrace the Caribbean immediately. Initially, I wasnt blown away by Bequia Beach Hotel; the plantation style buildings dont scream out the wow factor on first appearances, but as you look closer it is obvious that they are all lovingly designed with beautifully classic Caribbean furnishings; not floral bed spreads but heavy wood frames and luxurious fabrics - the rooms are just so eloquently finished. To pick out one little thing, perhaps the bathrooms could be a little more exciting and there are only a few rooms with freestanding bath tubs, but who needs a tub when the ocean right in front of you is so stunning!
And what a beautiful view we had, staying in a beachfront suite is most definitely a must. Sliding open the doors and slowly rising in the early morning to the sound of the ocean is unbeatable. The beach itself is naturally stunning, my footsteps sinking into soft sand as I strolled along the curved beach, not private but completely deserted! There is still a whaling tradition in Bequias communities, it is very controlled and, despite a little controversial, it is the traditions that have stood still here that highlight how untouched this island really is.
The laid back, slightly nostalgic atmosphere at Bequia Beach is perfectly combined and the staff are wonderful, so genuinely friendly that they will sometimes get a little carried away chatting about the love of their island and your order may take a little time! Spend some time chatting with a Bequia resident and their laid back trance soon rubs off and in no time your pace is a little slower and life appears stress free.
Our evening at Bequia started with tapas and Sangria next to the smaller pool, followed by a delicious dinner of lobster bisque, crab cakes and freshly caught lobster with a lemon mash, followed by a French cheese board (just because I was revelling in the availability of French Brie at such a remote destination carbon footprint not considered here!) The new chef is very inventive and the restaurant on the beach had a great vibe with ex pats and villa owners joining us for dinner and post dinner drinks. Our memorable evening was rounded off by partying late into the night at a Bequian open air Caribbean jump up - a live band played western and reggae hits in a calypso fashion and afterwards the staff from Bequia drove us back in the crazy open side taxi again, stopping for one last rum at a local rum shack just to round off the evening. Authentic Caribbean at its finest!
