As the location of inland brown bears, known affectionately as ‘grizzlies,’ varies from season to season, different aircraft are used on this excursion. Bush plane bear viewing includes a 20-minute boat trip to Homer to catch a flight on a wheeled De Havilland Beaver across the volcanic landscape to the Alaskan Peninsula, home to the world’s largest population of brown bears. On arrival, your guide will accompany you to find the best spots for watching the bears forage, feed, and play.
Alternatively, this scenic trip can be made by floatplane, landing on a remote mountain lake or river within either Lake Clark or Katmai National Parks. Again, this will be determined by the season and the bears’ food sources. During July and September, a slightly longer flight of 1.5-hours to Brook Falls, offers the chance to witness the unforgettable sight of the bears catching and feeding on the leaping salmon.
Each tour includes all park permits, lunch, snacks, drinks, and guide gratuity.
