March

We’re starting to get a spring in our step by March and are ready for a real adventure. Whether you’re eyeing up the lush rainforests of Costa Rica, the rugged wilderness of Australia or an enchanting cultural escape in Vietnam, we’ve got you covered. Or if it’s pure relaxation you’re after, how about St Lucia?
Below are our top picks for where to travel in March.
Costa Rica
One of the driest months in this tropical destination
One of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, Costa Rica is teeming with awe-inspiring scenery and natural wonders, not to mention an abundance of exotic species. Soak up the serene calm of the cloud forest, bathe in hot springs and stroll along picturesque beaches. Famed for its relaxed and happy approach to life (encompassed by the pura vida national motto), as well as its unfaltering commitment to sustainability and ecotourism, Costa Rica delivers on every level. In this tropical country, rain is never far away, but March is one of the driest months making it one of the best times to visit Costa Rica.
Australia
Warm weather and fewer crowds
Australia is a land of limitless horizons, where vast expanses of wilderness stretch out as far as the eye can see. Nature’s colour palette comes to life through the clear turquoise waters, lush green rainforests and red rocks of the Outback. Throw into the mix cosmopolitan cities, celebrated wine regions and some truly world-class cuisine, and there are few things a holiday to Australia can’t offer. March is a fabulous time to travel to Australia’s east coast, when New South Wales is still warm and the rains in Queensland have dried up.
Vietnam
A great month for overall weather
Vietnam is a cultural melting pot – from the Parisian grace and belle époque architecture of Hanoi to the rural villages of the Mekong Delta, where life has scarcely changed for generations. Mingle with the locals at bustling markets, learn the art of Vietnamese cooking with a traditional chef and venture to some of the country’s most remote outposts to observe how village life unfolds. March in Vietnam is one of the most pleasant months to travel – clear blue skies and very little rain frame the iconic sights beautifully.
St Lucia
Reliable sunshine and little rain
Punctuated by the lush, mountainous backdrop of the majestic Twin Pitons that soar out of the sea, St Lucia is one of the most distinctive Caribbean islands. This is an island where adventure awaits. Hike through 600 acres of verdant jungle, scuba dive the warm waters alongside a kaleidoscope of colourful marine life and savour delicious local delicacies, including the island’s famed bean-to-bar chocolate. We love this tropical island all year round, but December to April is generally considered the best time to visit St Lucia, when the sunshine is reliable, and storms are kept at bay.
Mauritius
Great for an opulent holiday
March is at the end of Mauritius' summer so the weather isn't as hot but it's still pleasant. You can spend your days exploring a coast which is fringed with coral reefs or delving into lush jungle in search of waterfalls. While away the days stretched out on a white sand beach or cool off in the crystalline waves. There's a reason why this destination is so popular!
Laos
A good time to see Laos as a whole
This time of year can be hot so its best to travel to the north of Laos and immerse yourself in the temples and markets of Luang Prabang. This ancent capital is home to an 83cm statue of the Buddha and is a sight to behold, there are also many opulent palaces to be explored and Mount Phousi is a romantic spot to enjoy the sunset.
Val d’Isère, France
Ideal if you only have a long weekend to getaway
Val d’Isère is one half of the renowned Espace Killy, which is arguably the greatest ski area in the world. The village itself dates back to 1664, giving the resort far more character than most other high altitude resorts. At 1850m (6,000 feet), Val d’Isère is among the highest resorts in Europe and has one of the best snow records in Europe. We run a Scott Dunn Explorers children's club in Val d’Isère exclusively for Scott Dunn guests.
New Zealand
Warm weather means its perfect for outdoor exploration
New Zealand is the ultimate outdoor playground, with rich rainforests, glacial mountains, raging rivers, pristine lakes, untouched beaches, and breath-taking canyons and fjords. Adrenaline junkies won’t be disappointed! New Zealand’s stunning scenery and exciting attractions and activities have made it a destination that people from all over the world want to visit. There are fewer tourists in March so it'll be easy to get away from crowds and back into nature.
Colombia
Lovely weather but not as busy
Colombia is Latin America's rising star and its not hard to see why: this land of towering Andean mountains, steamy tropical jungles, lush coffee plantations and the sparkling Caribbean coast. In March, the weather is lovely which only adds to the country's epic scenery and its an excellent time to visit Colombia's famous coffee growing region for a delicious cup.
Whistler, Canada
A great time to ski
March is traditionally one of the snowiest months of the ski season and there's more daylight which means more ski time. Whistler is one of the best ski resorts in North America (and one of the most breath-taking) and it not hard to see why! There's always something to do in this lively village, be it drinking in the views at summit-top bars, indulging in one of the numerous restaurants or finding those hard to reach slopes with a spot of Heli-skiing.
