Hiroshima, Miyajima & Around

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial is a museum which gives an intriguing insight into the devastating events surrounding the attack on Hiroshima at the end of World War Two in 1946. The Memorial Park also provides a fitting tribute to the victims. As well as history, soak up the atmosphere of a flourishing city, renowned for its food. Try okonomiyaki, the local dish, or other delicacies like oysters and maple-leaf pastries.

The picturesque island of Itsukushima, more commonly known as Miyajima, Shrine Island, is just a short ferry journey from Hiroshima and well worth a visit. As the ferry approaches the island, take time to admire the magnificent red torri gate which appears to float on the sea. There are numerous temples, shrines and narrow cobbled alleys to explore and wild deer can also be found roaming through the countryside.
