The best time to visit Miyajimaguchi is in the spring from March – May with pleasant warm temperatures and autumn from September – November when days will still be warm. The summer months from mid-June to early July can be very wet with torrential rain and July - August are the hottest months with high humidity. December – February is usually reasonable but temperatures can drop below freezing with snowfall.

Located just 15 minutes away from Miyajimaguchi station, surrounded by tranquil and beautifully manicured gardens, The Sekitei provides a haven of relaxation. The twelve rooms are designed with individual character but what they do have in common is that they all come complete with private onsen baths and incredible views.
Each room is in the Japanese style, with Tatami and a separate living area, dining area and two reading and relaxation rooms in which to enjoy the fantastic views. Seating in dining room is either Western or Japanese in style, depending on your room. The decor is very traditional in style, which adds to the charm with walkways between rooms being open to the elements and close to nature, with natural building materials playing a large role in the design and feel of the entire Ryokan.
To add to the relaxing atmosphere there is of course a public male and female bathing area, or onsen, a lounge where you can enjoy sake tasting before dinner and sweet treats after dinner, two separate salons and a library equipped with a cosy log fire and plenty of books to curl up with.
Dining at The Sekitei is an event in itself with breakfast and dinner served in the comfort of your own room, in the traditional way. The dishes are all as beautiful as they are delicious and the array of different and interesting flavours is outstanding.
With only twelve rooms, The Sekitei provides an intimate and traditional Ryokan experience. No two rooms are the same but they are all located in a U-shape around stunning manicured gardens. Each room is Japanese in style with a separate living and dining areas, rainforest shower, enormous bath for your own private onsen and two reading rooms in which to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views. The decor is has an understated elegance in the traditional Japanese style.
Breakfast and Dinner are normally served in your room in the traditional fashion. Dinner is a multi course affair (normally 9 courses) called Kaiseki with each course showcasing a different cooking method and unique set of flavours. Dining at The Sekitei is an event itself with each course being even more inventive and beautifully presented.
Apart from enjoying the public onsen and spending time in complete relaxation there are plenty of interesting and beautiful cultural sites to experience in Hiroshima which is just 30 minutes away or on Miyajima Island which is a short ten minute ferry away.

Dining at the Sekeiti was exceptional and an experience that I really dont think can be matched. The dishes (9 in total) all seemed to be even more delicious than the last and so beautifully presented it almost made me not want to eat themalmost. My room attendant, Yasuyo, was so helpful in describing the dishes to me and when she didnt know what one vegetable was in English she made sure she found out and wrote me a letter in the morning to let me know I was so touched that she went to such efforts! The dishes started with an aperitif including a sip of sake, followed by a taster appetizer course, soup course, sashimi course, grilled course, steamed course to name a few. The portions were very small meaning that you could try everything but I was still completely stuffed at the end. The following morning I chose to have a Japanese breakfast which was nearly as large as dinner the night before and with so many different bits and pieces to try I was completely blown away.
