Indulge in a wide range of adventure activities including whale watching, kayaking, and hiking, all led by expert naturalists.
Soak up the cosy vibe in the main lodge and private cabins, enjoying glacier views, great food, and convivial company.
This wonderful ecolodge is the only accommodation within the Kenai Fjords National Park, sitting in the Alaskan Native-owned Pederson Lagoon Wildlife Sanctuary, in the heart of the park. Nestling on the shores of the lagoon, the lodge boasts magnificent views of the Pederson Glacier and a stay here amid such beautiful remote wilderness will live long in the memory.
The eco-friendly timber main lodge and 16 cabins have been built to minimise the impact on the environment. A series of elevated walkways connect the cabins to the main lodge and while the cabins are screened from the water by trees, the design allows guests to benefit from the fantastic views of the glacier from private decks. The main lodge is home to the restaurant, lounge, bar, and a naturalist library. There is also a sauna for guests to enjoy and a spacious deck lined with rocking chairs.
Simple but comfortable furnishings, along with timber construction, give the 16 ensuite cabins an intimate and cosy feel. One of the highlights of a cabin stay is the view guests enjoy of the Pederson Glacier from the private decks. While the cabins feature heating and electricity, the lodge is off grid, with no Wi-Fi or phone network, so it’s a great chance for a digital detox.
Rates include all food and lodge activities, and guests can look forward to hot and cold breakfast choices, a light lunch and hearty evening meal, featuring local fish and seafood. The light and airy dining room has glorious glacier views, and the lounge is a lovely spot to unwind over a glass of fine wine or local beer.
Guests can choose from a range of daily activities which include whale watching, guided hiking, sea kayaking and scouting for wildlife, including dolphins, porpoises, sea lions, otters, bald eagles, and puffins. Activities are led by experienced naturalists, who can also teach guests more about the history of the Alutiiq people who once lived on the land here.
To reach the lodge, guests embark on a Kenai Fjords wildlife and glacier cruise, which serves as a fabulous introduction to the area. Boats leave from Seward and the narrated cruise takes around 5-hours.
