The greater part of the country lies on the southern slope of the Himalayas, extending down from the highest peaks through hill country to flat lands of the Terai and Chitwan National Parki. The hilly central area is crossed by the Lower Himalaya where the majestic Mount Everest can be found. The people are amongst the friendliest anywhere and the ancient cities of the Kathmandu valley - Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur - are cultural gems.
