Ol Jogi is a beautiful private safari house, located on a 60,000 acre private wildlife conservancy in Laikipia in Kenya. Booked exclusively for families or friends, it offers an ultimate East Africa safari experience with superb wildlife on the reserve.
Offering the ultimate exclusive safari experience, Ol Jogi has a prime position in Kenya's beautiful Laikipia region, located on a 60,000 acre private conservancy. It is the only safari property here, and is booked exclusively for groups of between four and 25 guests who have this vast wilderness to themselves to explore. Family owned for more than 40 years, this truly feels like a home from home.
The conservancy is home to some impressive wildlife, including the Big Five and numerous endangered species such as African wild dog, Eastern Black Rhinos and Grevy's zebras. You'll find endless ways to explore, from more traditional safari activities such as guided walking safaris and game drives to more adventurous options including horse riding, fishing, walking with a troop of baboons with their researcher, rock climbing or hiking the unique geology of the sandy erosion gully. Helicopter flights can easily be arranged to whisk you to the skies for a day trip to Lake Turkana, or simply for an aerial view over the stunning landscapes of the conservancy. Ol Jogi has a strong conservation focus and guests are able to learn more - from learning to track rhino with the rangers, joining in the daily training of the bloodhound sniffer dogs who are used for anti-poaching or getting them to follow your trail, or alternatively you can visit the Wildlife Rescue Centre and veterinary clinic on the reserve where orphaned animals including a blind rhino are being rehabilitated.
The main house is spacious and full of sculptures, paintings and bespoke furniture, and the décor is unique to each room. There's a large lounge which opens onto a veranda where breakfasts and lunches are often served, a formal dining room and bar, cinema room with surround sound, library, games room and business centre. A tunnel leads from the bar to an underground blind at the edge of the waterhole, offering some incredible up-close wildlife viewing - great for photographers! There is a Moroccan style steam room, a fitness centre and there's a resident masseuse to ease away your weary limbs after a day's adventures on the conservancy. Outside you'll find a large swimming pool with islands, tropical plants and its own waterfall, and nearby a floodlit tennis court.
There are thirteen suites, each with a dressing room and en-suite bathroom. The suites are in cottages, often with two suites per cottage with either a shared or separate lounge and terrace, and there is also a one-bedroom cottage.
Dining is overseen by the resident French chef who's lived at Ol Jogi for more than 30 years, and many of the vegetables and herbs are grown in the organic gardens here. Early meal times for children, simpler dishes, or food allergies can all be catered to as well as sumptuous feasts for big celebrations.
All of the thirteen suites are set in cottages, often two suites per cottage, set on the pretty lawns near the main house. Each has luxurious linens, spacious bathrooms with Hermes amenities, safes, minibars, hair dryers and WiFi internet.
Children of all ages are welcome and early meal times and simpler meals for children can easily be arranged. The staff at Ol Jogi are experienced at looking after families with children of all ages and can tailor activities to suit your youngsters.
Game drives, bush walks, hiking, horse riding, walking with a troop of baboons with a researcher, fishing on one of the dams on the property, visiting the wildlife rescue centre and veterinary clinic and conservation activities such as spending time with the bloodhounds and learning how they track poachers, or testing out your own tracking skills with the rhino rangers are all available. The house also has tennis courts, squash and table tennis, a gym, yoga, Pilates and a Moroccan steam room. Additional activities that are also available at an extra cost include scenic flights in light aircraft or helicopters to destinations such as Mount Kenya or Lake Turkana, mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling and river rafting.
