Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

To start planning your holiday to Acacia House

Acacia House is an exclusive private house offering an excellent family safari experience in the Mara North Conservancy Area, just outside the Maasai Mara in Kenya. The house has three bedrooms, one en-suite, and includes a private safari guide.

Acacia House is one of three houses in a Masai Mara conservancy. It is a relaxed, private house, situated in a remote Ol Chorro Losoit valley within the Lemek hills, far from the tourist trail and within the Mara Conservation area. It is surrounded by exceptional wildlife and stunning views.

Acacia House works fantastically for a family or group, offering a totally private and flexible safari experience.

The focal point of the house is the large open-air verandah which overlooks a waterhole and is a popular spot to relax and see what wildlife might wander nearby. Indoors is an open-plan dining and lounge area, complete with a fireplace for cooler evenings. Beyond the lounge are two spacious double ensuite bedrooms, and a smaller attic room designed for children.

The house is fully staffed, including your own chef, a house manager and a private safari guide and vehicle. To one side of the house is a swimming pool and barbeque area. The pool is shared with nearby Mara House.

Activities include game drives, either by daylight or by spotlight to catch a glimpse of those elusive nocturnal species. Walking safaris with an armed scout are also available as well as visits the Maasai villages. As you are not sharing your guide or vehicle with any other guests, you can plan your days to suit your family or group, offering the ultimate flexibility.

Asilia actively challenges the historical way of delivering cultural tourism. All the guides are exclusively Masai or Il Dorobo and all employees are encouraged to retain and practice the traditional Masai values such as traditional dress. In line with this the Nomadic Encounters team have helped build up and continue to support the Koiyaki guiding school.

Acacia House is taken on an exclusive use basis and has three bedrooms - downstairs two are spacious double en-suite bedrooms and a third attic room which suits children very well. The attic room does not have a bathroom so children in this room share a bathroom with their parents in one of the double rooms. The interior of the rooms are furnished with inviting warm colours giving them a very homely feel. However, the local artefacts are a reminder of the fabulous country you are staying in.

There are two spacious double rooms both with en-suite bathrooms

Exclusive Use House

There is one twin room in the attic ideally suited to children.

Acacia House welcomes children of all ages. The shared swimming pool with Mara House (and a baby pool) provide plenty of safe space for children to play. Just nearby is a small school room where the host's children are taught daily by the in house teacher Lydia. Guests are welcome to join them for as little or as much as they want allowing them some fun while the parents take a break before game driving, swimming and relaxing as a family later in the day.

To the side of Acacia House, raised above the waterhole, there is a pool and a barbecue area which is an ideal place to take some time out in between safaris, whether you want to curl up with a book, chat with some friends or have something to eat.

From Acacia House a fully qualified safari guide and vehicle will be on hand to assist with a wide range of activities which include walking, day or night game drives and visits to local villages and trading centres. Game viewing is done both in the game reserve and in the conservancy. Guests interested in community conservation are very welcome to participate in projects, including the computer training for local villagers at the nearby Trust classroom.

I loved my stay at Acacia House, Salash looked after us impeccably with lovely lunches by the pool and an incredible sundowner on top of the hill, where you really do feel on top of the world with the Mara Plains stretching out before you. Mara House is in a fantastic position close enough to go into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve for days game drive but it is lovely to be able to retreat away from the crowds up into the hills.

  • Game drives in the Maasai Mara

Exploring this iconic ecosystem in an adapted, open 4x4 safari vehicle with your professional safari guide is one of the best ways to get up close to the huge volume and wide diversity of wildlife in the Mara.

  • Maasai Mara Balloon Safari

Experience the magic of floating over the plains of the Maasai Mara in a Hot Air Balloon. Balloon safaris are a fantastic way to experience the vast beauty of the Mara and provide exceptional photo opportunities with spectacular lighting and scenery.

  • Private Safari Guide and Game Drive Vehicle

Ensure an exclusive and totally tailored safari experience by booking a private safari guide and game drive vehicle. A private guide gives you the flexibility to go where you want, when you want. If you have specific interests this is an absolute must.

  • Riding in Maasai Mara

Horseback safaris are the most exciting way to see the bush and in Kenya they are without a doubt the most exciting and adventurous safari you can do.

  • The Great Migration

The Maasai Mara is famous for being home to one of nature’s most spectacular events: the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest cross from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya’s Mara in search of better grazing.

  • Walking in the Maasai Mara

Exploring the African bush from outside a safari vehicle is a wonderful experience. Get away from the noise of the 4x4 and, accompanied by your professional safari guide, begin to pick up on the smaller details of the African bush.
