House in the Wild
  • An ideal stay for a home-away-from-home feel in the bush

  • Plenty of exciting and varied activities for the whole family

  • A stunning boutique property with friendly and welcoming staff

  • Property is completely fenced, so no hippos or elephants crossing the lawn and safe for kids to run around

Originally a family getaway for Tarquin and Lippa Wood, House in the Wild has been restored to a beautiful home-away-from-home boutique lodge experience in the Maasai Mara. Once located on a commercial farm, House in the Wild is now located on Naretoi, a 1,000-acre private estate within the Enonkishu Conservancy, the focus has moved from farming and back to nature. A 'rewilding' project has seen rangelands around the House in the Wild return to their natural state, with wildlife returning to the area after over a decade of intense farming. Having set up the Enonkishu Conservancy, Tarquin and Lippa have worked with the community to ensure that not only the wildlife see the benefits of the conservancy. They have implemented a grazing plan and engaged in social enterprises that will improve livelihoods, environment and revenues for all.

The House itself comprises four individually decorated cottages, sleeping twelve to fourteen guests in total. All over looking the Mara River, each has been decorated with hand crafted furniture throughout with plenty of communal space in the main areas for guests to socialise and relax. Running on 95% solar energy, House in the Wild uses recycled water through an eco wetlands, as well as sourcing firewood from a sustainable plantation. All the building material has been sourced from sustainable suppliers as well as there being a ban on plastic water botttles, with refillable aluminium bottles given to guests to use during their stay.

Dining at House in the Wild is taken either under the stars by the campfire, or in the dining area by the fire. Most of the fresh vegetables, eggs, milk, cream and baked goods have been produced by the farm or family, with healthy and delicious home cooked food taking centre stage.

Activities have been designed to offer the whole family independence and some exciting experiences during a stay. From game activities such as game drives, guided walks and sundowners to games in the garden such as croquet, garden boules, rugby balls and even board games. Guests can also visit local schools, go fishing in the Mara River, or even visit the local cattle market.
