The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot. July to October is very busy in the Mara

Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.

Itinerary

Day 1 - 2
Day 2 - 5
  • Maasai Mara

    At a Glance

Day 2 – Into the Maasai Mara After breakfast, fly by Safarilink to the Mara Ngerende Airstrip and continue to House in the Wild, a family-owned eco-lodge on a private conservancy. The afternoon brings your first encounter with the Maasai Mara’s wildlife—elephants, giraffes, and maybe even a lion sighting. Children can join local guides for hands-on conservation activities, while adults unwind by the river. The experience blends discovery with purpose, introducing your family to Kenya’s untamed beauty through a sustainable lens.

Day 3 – Exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve Today, journey deep into the Masai Mara National Reserve for an unforgettable safari. Your expert guide shares stories of the land, the wildlife, and the Maasai communities who help protect it. Expect thrilling wildlife encounters but also quieter, reflective moments—perhaps a picnic beneath an acacia tree or watching elephants at sunset. It’s a day that captures the magic of the Mara: wild yet deeply human, exclusive yet grounded in respect for nature.

Day 4 – Life on the Conservancy Spend the day immersing yourself in the rhythms of House in the Wild’s private conservancy. Families can track wildlife on foot, plant indigenous trees, or visit a nearby Maasai village to learn about traditional life and modern conservation. Every experience here strengthens your connection to Kenya’s people and landscapes. The pace is gentle, the service intuitive, and the atmosphere genuinely warm—a day designed for reconnection, exploration, and quiet appreciation.

Day 5 – From the Mara to Samburu After breakfast, fly north by shared charter to the remote wilderness of Namunyak Conservancy, home to the Sarara camp. Nestled among the mountains, Sarara is a beacon of community-led conservation. Arrive in time for a relaxed afternoon—perhaps a swim in the natural rock pool as the Samburu herds pass below. This is Kenya at its most soulful: raw beauty, authentic connection, and meaningful impact for the families who live and protect this land.

Day 6 – Adventures at Sarara Wake to birdsong and a golden sunrise over the Matthews Range. Today is yours to explore at your family’s pace—game drives, guided walks, or horse riding through the valleys. Learn how Sarara partners with the local community to protect wildlife and support education. Children are welcomed with curiosity-led activities that reveal the balance of nature here. The day closes with storytelling under a canopy of stars, the air filled with the sound of crickets and distant laughter.

Day 7 – Reteti Elephant Sanctuary This morning, visit Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, Africa’s first community-owned elephant rescue centre. Meet the keepers and see how they care for orphaned elephants before releasing them back into the wild. It’s a touching and hopeful experience that resonates with both children and adults. Return to Sarara for an afternoon at leisure—perhaps a gentle sundowner drive or quiet family time by the pool. The day captures the essence of travel with purpose—joyful, meaningful, and deeply human.
