Austrian Chef Dieter Koschina heads up Portugal’s only Michelin two star restaurant. Vila Joya is located in the multi award-winning Vila Joya boutique hotel, the focus is on high quality produce purchased daily from local fisherman and farmers. On Thursdays Koschina serves his famous gala dinner with eight courses, for the rest of the week there is a set dinner menu of six courses.

Henrique Leis, Almancil

Chef:  Henrique Leis

Brazilian Chef Henrique Leis embraces French cuisine enhanced by flavors of his South American homeland. His restaurant is inspired by a Swiss-chalet, a mix of sophisticated elegance and rustic charm. Leis has been in the Algarve since 1993, his seasonal menus include veal loin with sweet milk sabayon two mustards and honey, crayfish with endive in lemon and rack of Iberian pork with chestnuts and carob. There is also an impressive and extensive wine list.

São Gabriel, Almancil

Chef:  Torsten Schulz

German-born Torsten Schulz infuses flavors from his vast experience in the dishes he prepares at São Gabriel. Having worked and trained all over the world from China and Las Vegas to New York and Spain, he puts his experience to good use. His menu includes dishes such as macadamia nut crusted black angus tenderloin with scallop and caramelised shallots; lightly smoked salmon trout with braised cucumbers and crisp bacon; and crème brûlée with green tea sorbet. Enjoy dining al fresco on the patio among the lush sub-tropical Thai garden.

Willies Restaurant, Vilamoura

Chef:  Willie Wurger

German-born Willie Wurger has been in the Algarve since early 1980s, he cooked at La Reserve, the first restaurant in the Algarve to be given a star.  He went on to São Gabriel and then in 2000 he set up his own restaurant in Vilamoura, which has been awarded a star every year since 2006. The restaurant is quietly tucked away behind the Hilton hotel in the residential area of Vilamoura. His specialty is cuisine from central Europe, his signature dishes include pan-fried saddle of monkfish on mustard crème-sauce, hand-made seafood ravioli in a Vermouth cream sauce and lemon crème in sugar basket with berries.

Amadeus, Almancil

Chef:  Siegfied Danler-Heinemann

Austrian-born Chef Siegfried Danler-Heinemann has a simplified approach to modern European cuisine, he has been in the Algarve since 2003. He uses the freshest seasonal ingredients and keeps things simple.  His European dishes include wiener schnitzel with creamy cucumber, mustard rabbit with vegetables and “escargot” butter, pigeon “ettoufe” served with chantrelle mushrooms and spinach ravioli.  There are several different fixed-price menus and a wide selection of Portuguese and international wines.

Ocean Restaurant at Vila Vita Parc, Porches

Chef:  Hans Neuner

Austrian Chef Hans Neuner has trained with Michelin star chefs in Berlin, Hamburg and Mallorca. Vila Vita Parc resort is the stunning setting of Ocean Restaurant, where he arrived in 2006. Neuner began utilising innovative haute cuisine techniques on fresh, locally-produced (and largely organic) food products, three years later he was awarded a Michelin star. The menu changes weekly.
