Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.
Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

A luxury guesthouse just outside town, Wanaka Haven is a stylish base for enjoying the stunning scenery and abundant activities available in this part of New Zealand. Wanaka Haven has five guest rooms and welcomes couples, honeymooners and families. Owned and run by the lovely Anne-Mie, originally from Belgium, the guesthouse has a real home from home feeling.
There is a lounge with fireplace, dining area and large glass floor-to-ceiling windows which take in views across the gardens of the Southern Alps mountains. There's a lovely outside terrace area with comfy seats, more dining space and a barbecue which you can use to rustle up a feast in the summer months. A heated swimming pool is one of the real highlights here, along with loungers, offering a great place to unwind after a few days of adventures in and around Wanaka.
All of the rooms are stylishly decorated, and three have mountain views whilst two are on the side of the property, overlooking the lawns. All have TV and DVD player, air conditioning and WiFi. The premium room is the best room and has a super king sized bed, a bathtub as well as shower in the ensuite and two large windows.
Breakfasts are provided daily and you have a huge choice of superb restaurants in Wanaka to choose from for lunches and dinners. There are mountain bikes available to borrow, too - a great way to explore the surrounding area.
Childcare
Families are warmly welcomed here, and the owners have their own children so are happy to accommodate children of any age. Rollaway beds and cots can be arranged in advance, and can be added to any rooms. Two of the rooms have a door that can separate them from the rest of the lodge, ideal for families looking for a bit of additional privacy.
