The best time to combine South Africa with Namibia is between September & October or March to May when you can expect warm and settled weather in both countries. December - February in Namibia is very hot and can see temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius usually accompanied with heavy rains. This South Africa and Namibia adventure covers some incredible spots in southern Africa, from the ‘Big Five’ in the non-malarial Madikwe Game Reserve, to the huge red dunes of the Namibian desert in Sossusvlei, as well as some incredible experiences for the whole family, before ending back in South Africa to explore the lively city of Cape Town.

  1. Fly into Johannesburg

  2. Days 1-4: Madikwe Game Reserve

We think the best way to start any African holiday is with a safari. Starting at the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, you will have three nights to experience some action-packed game viewing with some excellent chances of ‘Big Five’ action and much more. This is a great reserve for families, and those with children over the age of 16 will be able to head out on food on a guided bush walk, offering you an up close and personal view of the bush.

Accommodation: Madikwe Safari Lodge (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-5: Windhoek

From Madikwe you will fly back to Johannesburg and fly to Namibia where you will spend one night in Windhoek before your Namibian portion of the trip begins. This is an excellent chance to recharge and relax after some early mornings on safari.

    Accommodation: Olive Grove (1 night)

  4. Days 5-8: Sossusvlei

Today your Namibian adventure starts with a light aircraft flight down in the world-famous dunes at Sossusvlei, home to the UNESCO world heritage site Dead Vlei. For three days, spend time exploring the unique landscapes and incredible scenery. For some extra special experiences keen horse riders could take a trip over the sand dunes, or, for some excellent photographic opportunities take to the skies in a hot air balloon (these experiences are extra).

Accommodation: Desert Homestead Outpost (3 nights)

  5. Days 8-11: Swakopmund

Next up is Namibia’s Skeleton coast and the colourful town of Swakopmund. As an old colonial town, the blend of Germanic and African influence on the architecture results in a wonderfully unique mix. Aside from spending lazy afternoons exploring the town itself there is also a huge amount to do here from quad biking into almost inaccessible parts of the Namib Desert and learning a little bit more about this unique desert eco system to kayaking with seals and dolphins in the calm waters of the lagoon surrounding Pelican Point Light house.

Accommodation: Strand Hotel Swakopmund (3 nights)

  6. Days 11-14: Cape Town & the Western Cape

From here, you will fly from the nearby town of Walvis Bay back to South Africa, and this time to the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town for the final part of your trip. Set right in the heart of Cape Town the private apartments at More Quarters are the perfect base to explore this beautiful city from, with all the perks of a hotel but with the freedom to come and go as you please and at your own pace. During your stay in Cape Town there is always something to do, from climbing Table Mountain to exploring the Cape Point peninsular and visiting the penguins at Boulders beach. This is a fantastic adventure for the whole family offering plenty of variety for everyone.

    Accommodation: More Quarters (3 nights)

  7. Fly home from Cape Town
