  • Enjoy incredible vistas from your private deck as the sunsets over the desert

  • Relax beside the pool after a day exploring the giant dunes at Sossusvlei

  • Enjoy some star gazing from the comfort of your own roof deck

Desert Homestead Outpost, formerly Kuala Wilderness Camp, sits on a hill to the back of Sossusvlei, offering dramatic views of this rugged desert landscape and the ideal base for exploring the region. With just thirteen rooms, it is a comfortable and great value for money option in the area, offering the perfect balance of great activities and friendly Namibian hospitality.

The lodge’s sister property, Desert Homestead, has stables offering horse-rides to guests staying at the Outpost, a great way to enjoy the dramatic dune and mountain scenery after a day in the car. There are also numerous hiking and jogging trails to enjoy from the lodge, where you won’t see another soul. Guided trips into the dunes are recommended, offering insight into the formation of the dune sea as well as the unique flora and fauna that can be found in the desert.

The rooms are made up of 13 cottages including one Family Room and a Honeymoon Suite dotted along the hillside, each spacious and designed to keep cool during the hot days. They are spacious, measuring 25 m², each with an en-suite bathroom with outside shower, and private shaded deck areas as well as a rooftop sleepout if you feel like a little stargazing.

The main lodge has a swimming pool with sun deck and shaded areas, a viewing deck which is the perfect spot for a sundowner drink after a day exploring the dunes, and a restaurant serving home-cooked dishes. The atmosphere here is relaxed and friendly, rather than luxurious and formal, so don’t expect five-star service or cuisine, rather an authentic, Namibian lodge and a great base for the Sossusvlei area.
