Average time to visit
The best time to visit Windhoek is between May and September, when it's cool and dry. Summer (November to March) is hot with heavy rains that sometimes make the gravel roads to the Namib completely impassable.
December and January see the main school holidays: much of the populace heads to the coast, so if you visit during this time you may find some shops and restaurants closed.
To start planning your holiday to GocheGanas
Situated a mere 29 kilometres south east of Windhoek on a picturesque hillside overlooking spectacular landscapes, GocheGanas is a welcoming and luxury lodge offering a unique combination of wildlife, nature and spa experiences.
Gocheganas offers guests the perfect start or end to a trip around Namibia; it's situated only an hour's drive outside Windhoek, in the middle of a 60 km2 nature reserve, and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The name Gocheganas translates literally as the place where the Camelthorns are found in the local language, Damara, and these trees are in evidence everywhere. It's believed that Gocheganas was previously a resting place for weary travellers, and the natural springs found in the many caves on the reserve bear testament to this. In 2002 a stone age cave was discovered, and guests can take a game drive and explore this.
The rooms at Gocheganas are all designed to maximise the incredible views over the reserve; the lodge itself is situated atop a hill, surrounded on all sides by rich grazing, so you can spot herds of gemsbok and even rhino from your deck. Each room has an indoor and outdoor shower, and a luxurious bath; all are equipped with state of the art amenities and are a short walk from the main area.
Gocheganas has a super main area with an outdoor bar, perfect for enjoying sundowners with a view; for those wishing to cool off, there is a refreshing swimming pool with sun-loungers. The main focus here is the Wellness Village, whose 11 treatment rooms offer a vast array of treatments both for body and mind; for those feeling a little more energetic there is a gym - with a personal trainer if required - and yoga classes.
Gocheganas has 16 very luxurious thatched suites, described as Elegant Suites; each has sweeping views over the surrounding nature reserve. Each suite is large and spacious with large, floor to ceiling glass windows giving uninterrupted views, and each is en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers, a bath, and double basins. Each suite sleeps two guests, and there is a further Crown Suite which sleeps four people in a separate area linked by a wooden deck.
Children of all ages are welcome at Gocheganas and can participate on activities in the reserve (with the exception of cycling safaris). Children over the age of 12 are welcome to use the Wellness Village and Spa. We would recommend the Crown Suite which sleeps four, for families travelling with children.
Gocheganas prides itself on excellent, freshly prepared food, and the lodge has a juice bar for those wishing to really detox. Gocheganas' main focus is its wellness village; here there are eleven separate treatment rooms offering a huge variety of treatments from massages - hot stone, aromatherapy and swedish to name a few - to facials, hand and feet treatments and full body treatments. In addition the lodge offers yoga sessions, a gym with state of the art equipment, personal training and nutritional consultations. There is a wonderful granite cave sauna to enjoy, and the focus is on relaxation and rejuvenation.
Activities at Gocheganas are varied, but focus around exploring the 60 km2 reserve in which the lodge is situated; there is a variety of wildlife including rhino and gemsbok, and you can explore on foot or by bicycle, either accompanied by a guide or by yourself. Morning and afternoon game drives are offered, and the views from some of the rocky kopjes in the reserve are beautiful; it is well worth scrambling up!

GocheGanas is a comfortable lodge that I would recommend for those looking for rest and relaxation at the beginning or the end of a trip through Namibia. The highlight here is their extensive Wellness Village complete with a gym, indoor and outdoors pools and a full service spa. I enjoyed my stay here and the views from my chalet were delightful.

GocheGanas is the most perfect place to either start or end a Namibian adventure. This small boutique hotel is about an hours drive outside Windhoek, it is the perfect place to either have a relaxing start to your Namibian adventure or regroup and have a relaxing massage at the end of your trip.
The hotel is in a private nature reserve so if you want to go on a game drive or nature walk this is possible. However I have to own up and say we tested out the spa!! As well as the outdoor pool which is perfect to relax by and soak up the view there is a lovely indoor heated pool state of the art equipment such as a crystal bath, hydrotherapy bath and a vichy shower. I have the most wonderfully relaxing massage which was needed after a 3,000km road trip.
