Days 1-3: Chichen Itza
On arrival in Cancun you will be met by your private driver to begin your holiday with two nights at Hacienda Chichen, a charming small estate perfectly located by the world-famous Maya ruins of Chichen Itza with its very own entrance to the site, eliminating the need to queue. We have included a half-day tour of the ruins before the crowds arrive in the morning, leaving the afternoon free to head off to a cenote for a swim, relax in the spa, enjoy some bird watching or head off to explore one of the nearby colonial towns. Chichen Itza is a wonderful example of the intelligence demonstrated by the Maya when designing their cities, taking into account the position of the stars, sun and moon to create optical illusions and demonstrate the power of the Gods.
Accommodation: Hacienda Chichen (2 nights)
-
Days 3-5: Merida
Continue to Merida, the capital of the Yucatan state and a beautiful city which proudly boasts colonial architecture, grand mansions and colourful evening celebrations. Enjoy a tour of the city with a guide and discover the history behind its wealth and vibrant traditions. The rest of your time is at leisure so enjoy simply wandering and sampling the Yucatecan cuisine, or alternatively head out to the flamingo-rich lagoons of Celestun Biosphere Reserve or the contrasting ruins of Uxmal and Kabah. Stay for two nights at the beautiful Casa Lecanda in the heart of the city, an immaculately restored Merida home that provides a serene haven from the hustle and bustle outside.
Accommodation: Casa Lecanda (2 nights)
-
Days 5-9: Riviera Maya & Isla Holbox
Finally, the alluring white sand beaches of the Riviera Maya beckon, backed by rainforest and mangrove lagoons. The beaches invite relaxation, while there are plenty of adventures to be had for those who wish to explore further. Spend four nights here entirely at your leisure and enjoy the superb services and amenities at your hotel, go off to dive or snorkel on the world's second longest barrier reef, dine in one of the Mayakoba complex’s many fantastic restaurants or visit yet more Mayan ruins at Tulum or Coba. There is endless opportunity to extend your trip or maximise your free time before flying home from Cancun.
