Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Baja California is a rare destination that offers a great getaway year long. Peak time for travel is when weather is temperate in the low 20ºc range and whale watching opportunities are at their best (late-November to April). This also includes the festive holiday and New Year period. Cool temperatures are ideal for desert adventures and hiking and boating for wildlife viewing and island exploration. Summer (April to September) can be hot and humid but the beaches are less crowded. Summer waters are ideal for snorkelling and diving. Hurricanes are much less common than in the Caribbean, but it is something to be aware of for September and October travel which is considered low season.

Baja is blessed with two marine life rich oceans; the Sea of Cortez to the east has a warmer sea temperature than the more exposed than the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Todos Santos makes a good base for surf trips, in the winter (Nov-March) the best breaks are south of Todos Santos at Cerritos Beach. This is a 15-minute drive from Guaycura. Todos Santos attracts lots of surfers who enjoy the restaurants and gentle nightlife of the town with easy access to the beach each day.

  2. Days 1-2: Baja California

Touch down in Baja California, the earth’s second-longest peninsula offering over 1,200km of the mystical, majestic and untamed. Dive headfirst into the start of this awesome adventure on the charming promenade of La Paz. Arrive at your hotel after a short 20-minute drive from the airport ready to be revived and warmly welcomed before you immerse yourself in the magic Baja California has to show you. Staying at the sumptuous Posada de Las Flores, you will feel a sense of home in this boutique, family-run property with its authentic ambience, colonial style Mexican residence and luxurious modern touches. Feeling refreshed from your flight, step onto the Malecon seafront and wander along the lively promenade bursting with local artists at work, buzzing restaurants, pulsating shops and extravagant ice-cream parlours. In the early evening, savour a refreshing drink in one of the many neighbouring restaurants and watch the promenade come alive with locals appreciating the dramatic evening sunset.

Accommodation: Posada de las Flores La Paz (1 night)

  3. Days 2-5: Islas Ispiritu Santo

Step off the tourist trail for the next leg of your journey, as you take a short boat ride and escape to the idyllic Isla Espiritu Santo. Let the feeling of calm wash over you as you let the enchantment of this barefoot luxury take hold and wrap you in happiness. For the next three nights, you’ll stay at the sumptuous Camp Cecil. A secluded haven for sun-seekers and wildlife enthusiasts, this beautifully decorated tented camp is perfectly located on the shores of the gleaming Sea of Cortez. Expect lavish linens, heavenly beds, candle-lit lanterns, boho-chic soft furnishings and lounging beach chairs. Wake up to the soothing sound of the ocean lapping at the shores. Fuel up on a tropical breakfast whilst overlooking the sun-glistening ocean and take your pick from the endless list of activities ready for you to leap into. From swimming with sealions, snorkelling with manta rays and spotting whales, to fun filled kayaking, paddle boarding at sunset and hiking in the hills, we’ll make sure you leave no island stone unturned. In the evenings, switch off from the outside world, uncork a bottle of wine and lounge under the blanket of stars that overlay the dreamy night sky.

    Accommodation: Camp Cecil (3 nights)

  4. Days 5-6: Baja California

Utterly rejuvenated from your island retreat, it’s time to head back to Posada de Las Flores for one night before moving onto the next leg of your journey. This time round, you’ll have the opportunity to dive into the surrounding turquoise waters and encounter more epic marine wildlife. If you’re visiting between December and March, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to get up close to the mighty and majestic whale sharks on an unforgettable snorkelling experience. After an afternoon of soaking up the sun and exploring the waters, freshen up for dinner. Indulge in one of the onsite restaurants for the best views of the sunset, or if you fancy a break from Mexican food, we recommend wandering down the promenade to Harkerboard for zingy craft beers and yummy pizzas.

Accommodation: Posada de las Flores La Paz (1 night)

  5. Days 6-8: Todos Santos, Baja California, Mexico

For the next leg of your adventure, you’ll drive an hour south to the authentic Mexican town of Todos Santos. With its charming cobblestone streets lined with art galleries, romantic restaurants, colourful boutiques and extravagant cacti, we believe this to be the prettiest town in the far south of Baja. Nestled within a mile of unspoilt Pacific beaches on one side and peaks of the Sierra de la Laguana on the other, Guaycura Boutique Hotel is where you’ll spend the next two nights. Lean into the serenity of this colonial region and succumb to the slow pace of life that presents itself. Lace up and explore the hiking trails that traverse the canyons of Sierra de la Laguna. Scramble along the rugged cliffs and search for sea lion colonies living there. Get your heart racing and adrenalin pumping as your private surfing instructor teaches you how to ride the waves. Culture, activities and wildlife aside, one of the real highlights of the few days you spend here is sure to be the oceanic views from the hotel’s hillside restaurant. Stop here for lunch in between making use of the wide range of activities and experiences on offer, or simply kick back at the hotel’s spa and enjoy doing satisfyingly little.

    Accommodation: Hotel Guaycura (2 nights)

  6. Days 8-11: Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico

One last destination is waiting in the wings. Famed for its luxury resorts, outstanding beaches and effervescent nightlife, Los Cabos is an unmissable holiday destination that prompts luxurious self-indulgence and time to unwind. Nestled within the rugged Baja landscape on Monuments Beach, you’ll stay at The Cape. A lively and laidback resort, with stylish pools, a unique spa and its internationally acclaimed MANTA restaurant, The Cape offers the perfect blend of relaxation, delicious cuisine and a roaring party scene to round off your trip. Each suit has a chic, mid-century, modern Mexican aesthetic with a private terrace that boasts panoramic views of the pacific surf and overlooking the famous ‘El Archo’ Arch. Set within the natural oceanfront cliffs, The Cape is designed for selfie-worthy views at every angle.

Head down to the beach and plunge into the alluring sea. Swim up to the lively poolside bar for a revitalising afternoon cocktail. Repose in the luxurious outdoor spa set amongst the natural rock formation, or simply soak up some rays from your private terrace. In the evenings, freshen up for dinner and make your way to the sixth floor of The Cape to The Rooftop. An alfresco lounge with supreme views, weekly live music, vertical gardens, lounge seating and fire pits, this is the place to be. As the sun sets, witness The Cape come to life with energy and vibrancy as guests tuck into mouth-watering tapas, indulge in tropical Baja beverages and dance the night away.
