Amantaka - Pak Ou Caves
Luang Prabang, Laos
Take a relaxing cruise along the Mekong with your private guide to Pak Ou caves where you will be met by thousands of Buddha statues offered by pilgrims for hundreds of years. Observe village life on the banks of the river and enjoy a picnic en route.
Believed to have been discovered in the 16th century, the caves occupy two levels and could have been a place of spirit worship. On your way to and from the caves there is much to see as village life unfolds alongside and men fish in the river's waters. You can also stop at the "Lao whisky village" where sticky rice is distilled to become the famous "Lao Lao" one of the staple drinks in Laos.
