Offbeat Riding Safaris don't take place in April, May or November. The tourist season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.
Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.

Staying in mobile camps in the Maasai Mara, Offbeat Riding Safaris provides some of the best riding safaris in Africa accompanied by expert riding guides. Explore the iconic Maasai Mara and enjoy stunning game viewing with different discoveries each day.
Offbeat Riding Safaris give you an exceptional adventure on horseback in the heart of the Maasai Mara, exploring the vast plains and enjoying spectacular wildlife sightings on a completely unique safari. The rides vary in length from 8 to 11 days and all comprise some mobile camping while some also include a couple of nights at Deloraine - Offbeat Safaris' stately house - on the edge of the beautiful Rift Valley.
The tents used on mobile safaris are spacious 10ft by 9ft tents with twin camp beds, mattresses, sheet and blankets. Towels, soap and torches are provided and there is a gas lamp and hurricane lamp in each tent. In addition, each tent has a private long drop toilet and bucket showers are always available.
Offbeat matches you with a horse, all of which are well-trained and of high quality stock that are used to the varied terrain as well as the wildlife, including big game, that you are likely to encounter. Their guides are very experienced to ensure a safe and highly enjoyable ride. Guests should be considered as experienced riders and comfortable at all paces and be able to gallop out of trouble. You can expect to spend between four and seven hours in the saddle each day with a generous break for lunch. Set departures take a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 riders.
Offbeat Riding Safaris are not suitable for children due to the fast nature of the activity posing a potential hazard to their safety.
Horses, camping equipment and tack are all provided, but we recommend that you bring your own riding helmet and boots. All the safaris are led by experienced guides who will adapt to the needs of each guest.

Of all my African experiences, Offbeat Safaris has to have been one of the most exciting, fun and unique. The safari is owned and run by Tristan and Cindy Voorspuy and the riding safaris are led by either Tristan himself or Jakob von Plessen both of whom are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and have a real passion for what they do. The horses are all well-schooled, responsive and fit and you very quickly become highly attached to your horse. Offbeat safaris are not for the faint hearted and good riding ability is important as you are riding in the heart of the Masai Mara alongside the wild game. Some highlights of the trip were swimming the horses across the Mara River with Jakob cracking his bull whip to move the hippo blocking our way, galloping alongside a herd of stampeding wildebeest and relaxing by a campfire under the stars after a long day of riding. Offbeat riding safari truly is a once in a lifetime experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a passionate rider.

For keen riders the Offbeat riding safaris really are the ultimate way to see game in Africa. Whether galloping across the plains or having a drink round the camp fire at the end of the day every second will be action packed.
