The rainy season on the Lamu Coast is generally May/June. So from July onward the weather is gradually getting hotter and dryer until March/April when it reaches the high 90's (over40 degrees C). Christmas/New Year is generally considered the peak season and the weather is lovely from December to February with constant sunshine and gentle off shore breezes. November and March are shoulder months and typically the hottest times of year. June to October are the coolest months when snorkelling and fishing are not possible but days are sunny and families wishing to avoid the heat often find this a lovely time of year to stay.
Kizingoni Pepo House is one of a group of exclusive and secluded private homes set on Kizingoni Beach, on the beautiful island of Lamu off the Kenyan coast. The house sleeps up to 10 guests and is fully staffed and catered.
Pepo House is set back from the beach, giving it added seclusion and privacy in pretty landscaped gardens. The main house has two en-suite bedrooms on the first floor and a large master bedroom with private terrace on the second floor.
On the ground floor there is a baraza area which leads onto a large, partially covered, wrap-around dining terrace, overlooking the private pool. A further two en-suite bedrooms are housed in a separate guesthouse, alongside the main house, ideal if two families are travelling together but want a little privacy. Pepo House accommodates up to 10 guests in total.
Two ancient trees stand watch over each end of the pool, completing the natural courtyard and providing good shade. A separate staff house and fully-equipped kitchen complete the property to provide guests with on-hand personal service, with a private chef and plenty of activities on offer.
There are six bedrooms here in total, five of which are double and one is a twin. All rooms are en-suite. The main house has a twin bedroom for children on the ground floor, two double bedrooms on the first floor and a master suite on the second floor, with a large private balcony. The other two double rooms are in the separate guesthouse building adjacent to the main house, and here there is also a pool changing room which is also used for massage treatments.
Children of all ages are most welcome at Pepo House. However, there are no specific child care facilities but babysitting can easily be arranged. It is possible to tailor food requirements to children's tastes and arrange for earlier meal times if required. Lamu and the coast of Kenya is a wonderful place for a family holiday with calm safe waters, endless activities and plenty of cultural interaction.
The house is well equipped, with a lovely swimming pool and plenty of areas to unwind in privacy. The panoramic roof terrace is shady and cool during the heat of the day and a great spot to enjoy a pre-dinner drink at sunset. The main veranda leads out from the indoor baraza where you can lounge in the shade, or head out to the sun by the pool. Evening meals are served outdoors to make the most of the breeze for which the house is named.
A variety of water sports are available at Pepo House, including sailing, waterskiing, wake boarding, donuting and windsurfing. You can take a leisurely sundowner sail in Kilindini, a luxurious dhow, one evening. Other activities on the Indian Ocean include fishing, snorkelling and kayaking.
