High Place of Sacrifice
The path begins with a 45-minute hike up the steps through the rocky slope into the High Place of Sacrifice. Built atop Jebel Madbah, this is the most accessible among Petra's High Places, used for draining the blood of animal sacrifices. Admire the sacrificial altar and the 6-metre high obelisk carved out from the rock, with a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.
Continue through the path leading to the back of the mountain into Wadi Farasa. Along the way, you'll pass through lesser-known Garden Tombs set amidst colourful cliffs. These tombs are uniquely named, such as Soldier's Tomb and Lion Fountain. The path eventually descends down into the Petra valley once more after another 1.5 hours. You need to be reasonably fit for this hike.
[Please note that the Wadi Farasa path is mostly exposed with direct sunlight, hence we recommend to bring your sunscreen, hat and plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.]
