Hike Gyubado-ji Guchi to Tsugizakura-oji

Kawayu, Kumano Kodo, Japan

The hiking trail from Gyuba-doji to Tsugizakura-oji covers 4.2 kilometres and typically takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

Our hike begins with a short climb to the Hashiotori-toge Pass where the Gyuba-doji statue can be found, showcasing Kazan as one of the first emperors to visit Kumano on a pilgrimage. The trail descends down into the Chikatsuyu Village.

Leaving the hamlet town into the mountain, we will pass through the Nonagase Cemetery which is approximately 500 years old and through the Nonaka settlement with its ancient cedar trees and mountain springs, which is considered one of the 100 Famous Waters of Japan.
