For those visiting the wonderfully preserved 16th century narrow lanes and merchant houses of Takayama, Iori Ichinomachi provides guests with the opportunity to experience life as a local. This wonderfully restored townhouse is a home away from home just outside the town in the peaceful setting of Hida Furukawa. The helpful concierge service welcomes guests and can advise on all the local attractions, to help you make the most of your time in the region.

This 80-year-old traditional house is located on a quiet street next to the Honkoji Temple and has been renovated to create a stylish and sophisticated base. Retaining the building’s traditional heritage and charm, the work of local artisans including a traditional plasterer, furniture maker and gardener, make a stay here a truly memorable experience.

The house sleeps between 2-6 people over two floors. The ground floor includes a lounge and dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and separate WC, with access to the Japanese-styled garden with an outdoor bathtub. The two bedrooms are on the upper floor. One includes two Western-style beds, while the other is a Japanese-style room with four futon beds. There is air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TV, refrigerator, and hairdryer provided.

Breakfast is included and is delivered daily by the chef, who can prepare different types of food to suit your tastes, including vegetarian and vegan options. There are plenty of local options for dining or dinner can be delivered by arrangement. There is even the option to enjoy private in-house dining with a Michelin-trained chef.

The property is in the heart of Hida Furukawa old town, amid the traditional streets the area is famous for. It is a 4-minute walk from the town’s station and a 15-minute train ride to Takayama. There is a pick-up service provided from either Takayama or Hida Furukawa Station. Hida Furukawa is a good option for those not wanting to stay in the more touristy town of Takayama and has several sake breweries, museums and temples to visit.
