To start planning your holiday to Palazzo Experimental

Located in Venice’s Dorsoduro district, Palazzo Experimental is a boutique property overlooking the lagoon towards Giudecca island. Boasting a large garden, Palazzo Experimental offers a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Housed in what was once the headquarters of the Adriatic Cruise company, Palazzo Experimental has effortlessly blended the original features and style of the property with a contemporary Venetian décor. Bold colours are used throughout, enhancing details such as the beautiful terrazzo floors and giving a modern twist to the typical style of the city.

The 32 rooms and suites at Palazzo Experimental are comfortable and contemporary, offering views of either the pleasant garden or the lagoon and Giudecca island. The majority of the stylish bathrooms have double basins and provide a unique collection of amenities, showcasing a range of brands.

There is a great focus on food and drink at Palazzo Experimental, as the property sits under the Experimental Cocktail Club brand. The hotel boasts its own cocktail club, serving delicious drinks to guests and locals alike in a contemporary Art Deco setting. Palazzo Experimental’s restaurant, Ristorante Adriatica, serves seasonal dishes inspired by Italy’s Adriatic coastline. Locally sourced ingredients are used to create mouth-watering meals, alongside the selection of typically Venetian cicchetti – small bites similar to tapas.

Palazzo Experimental is surrounded by the winding streets and canals of the Dorsoduro district, just a 20-minute walk from the hustle and bustle of St Mark’s Square. This area of the city offers a more local, authentic experience, while still remaining close to the key landmarks of Venice.

Palazzo Experimental is perfectly placed for exploring the off-the-beaten-track Dorsoduro district, home to a number of local trattorias and cicchetti bars. Within a 15-minute walk, guests can easily reach St Mark's Square and many of the other key landmarks of the city.

Staying at Palazzo Experimental was a fantastic surprise. This boutique hotel is located in the Dorsoduro region and so it feels less touristy and more authentic. The Dorsoduro region is home to museums and universities. Palazzo Experimental offers 32 rooms and suites, each unique and decorated in an understated nautical theme. The building used to be home to the Ardiatic Cruise Company and so there is a nod to this history throughout the hotel. I stayed in a Junior Suite and it was spacious with a view of the back courtyard. The Experimental Group is known for their cocktail clubs and so this property offers a traditional speak easy on the main floor. It is small and decorated in an art deco style and it seemed to have a great buzz in the evenings. We had dinner at the main restaurant and it was one of the best meals we had during our trip. The service throughout the hotel was excellent and not stuffy. This hotel would be a great choice for couples looking for a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I loved it!
