The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is in spring or late summer, when temperatures are pleasant and humidity levels are low. In July and August the climate is hot and humid, while the area is busy with tourists. Hotels in the Amalfi Coast tend to close for the winter, starting in October until they reopen in late March or April.

Hotel Excelsior Vittoria has a unique air to it, perfectly combining a historic, classical feeling along with a sense of fun and a lively buzz. Celebrating over 180 years of hospitality the Excelsior Vittoria really has had time to get it right and they certainly have! With 5 acres of gardens featuring olive trees and citrus grove, archaeological finds from the 4th century BC and with sea front terraces overlooking the gulf of Naples, you really are in an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of life. The hotel is warm and welcoming with guests enjoying the live music at Bar Vittoria or the tranquil setting of L'Orangerie poolside restaurant. Here the stone-fired pizza oven creates the most wonderful pizza you will taste. Relaxation comes easily, the huge outdoor heated marble swimming pool and the garden setting of the La Serra spa give you the chance to unwind perfectly. The rooms offer sumptuous furnishings and wonderful views over the water towards Mount Vesuvius.

Turning off from the main Sorrento Square you are instantly at peace driving down the flower lined driveway leading up to the wonderful Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. It really is a unique property that has been in the hands of the Fiorentino family since 1834. Its in a wonderful location with its vast gardens and heated outdoor pool as well as its phenomenal, sweeping views from the clifftop over the Sorrento Harbour and beyond. The beach and marina access by lift takes you straight down to the harbour where you can jump on the boat to Capri, Ischia and Naples or instead wander the narrow winding streets of Sorrento. It really is a difficult choice between the wonderful wood fired pizzas at the Orangerie restaurant and the live music on the main terrace. Another wonderful suggestion is trying the garden champagne bar which is located on the main plaza in Sorrento and well worth a visit for some people watching by candlelight. You really get a feel for the rich history of the hotel with its elegant decor, antiques and beautiful ceilings and marbled floors throughout. The Vittoria, Favorita and the Rivali are the three buildings that makes up the hotel. My one bit of advice is to choose a room with a terrace to enjoy the sunset.
