Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Indonesia at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Just what you expect from anOberoi, a beautiful resort constructed from pink coral stones in the tranquil northern region of Lombok. Relax in your private pool villa or venture to theGilliislands for white sand and great snorkelling. Get more adventurous and head inland to the famousSanakvillages, ancient mosques or MtRanjani,an active volcano the towers over the northern part of Lombok. The service is incredible so whether you have a jam packed schedule or want some guidance you will be in good hands.

This hotel has such a wonderful feeling of space and freedom, that is hard to find on the more crowded Bali beaches. The 50 pavilions and villas are scattered around the beautiful gardens and spacious grounds. The facilities are fantastic, with a gorgeous big pool perched just above the beach area. The sand is whiter and sea clearer than you find in Bali and so peaceful, that it really is such a tranquil getaway. The service is fantastic, with attentive and friendly staff on hand with complimentary lunchtime sorbet, afternoon tea or to assist with kayaking or windsurfing from the Beach Club. The pavilions are excellent and for those wanting more privacy, the villas are a superb option. I found this a charming and relaxed hotel on the stunning island of Lombok.

Although the islands are only a short distance apart, Lomboks distinct lack of development and Muslim culture make it a stark contrast to Bali's bustling streets and Hindu temples. The Oberoi Lombok located in mature tropical gardens along a curve of sugar-white sand on this sleepy island and has a really private and relaxed atmosphere. The Pavilions and Villas are set amongst the lush gardens and through the coconut palms you catch a glimpse of Medana Beach - one of the jewels in the Oberoi's crown. The decor has a distinctly Indonesian feel, with darkwood, loft thatched roofs and local artefacts dotted around which I really loved. The joy of the Oberoi is being able to do as much or as little as you want, lie by the pool or on the beach with a great book, enjoy a massage or a game of tennis or if you are feeling rather more active or want an adventure, I would highly recommend a day trip to the nearby Gili Islands where the snorkelling and diving is superb. Due to the secluded nature of the property, there aren't any options to dine elsewhere, however I found the food delicious and varied and the setting of the restaurants are just lovely. This really is the perfect property for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and just relax in paradise!
