Guatemala is called the "Land of Eternal Spring" because the average annual temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit (a bit cooler, especially in the evenings around Lake Atitlan, 5,000ft elevation). While June through August see the most tourists, April, early May and November for gorgeous weather and smaller crowds. The rainy season lasts from May to October, typically beginning each day with clear skys and clouding up and rains beginning after mid-day. The Semana Santa (Easter week) proceedings in March or April are very popular and bookings need to be made far in advance. High season rates apply for most hotels both During Semana Santa and the Christmas/New Years seasons.
To start planning your holiday to Hotel Atitlan
Hotel Atitlan has a superb location on the fringes of Guatemala's Lake Atitlan, with most rooms benefiting from the most spectacular views of the lake and volcanoes beyond. The hotel has 60 unique rooms and plenty of facilities to complement your stay.
Hotel Atitlan has a fabulous location on the shores of the famous Lake Atitlan, only a five-minute drive from lively Panajachel, which is the local town. Having been used as a coffee plantation in a former life, Hotel Atitlan's decor is in the Spanish colonial hacienda style that was favoured by the Guatemalan plantation owners of the 18th-century.
Since its transformation into a hotel, there are now 60 guest rooms with wood burning fireplaces, each uniquely decorated. Although simple and rustic, the rooms mostly enjoy views of the lake and its backdrop of volcanoes, or the hotel's manicured gardens. Hand-woven bedding, textiles and traditional Guatemalan pieces of art feature throughout.
Facilities include a restaurant where you can enjoy poolside dining with yet more of those spectacular views. Towel service and poolside cocktails can easily be arranged, and the adjacent Jacuzzi is the perfect place to retreat to once the sun goes down.
There are 60 rooms and suites at Hotel Atitlan, all of which have unique decor but all feature hand-woven local textiles, pieces of Guatemalan art and traditional furnishings. WiFi and cable TV bring the rooms up to date although the overall feel is slightly rustic and very traditional. All of the rooms have their own balconies or terraces, which look out over the lake and volcanoes or the hotel's beautiful gardens.
Children are welcomed but there are no special facilities, although they will love the variety of activities on offer in the local area, the close proximity to town and the refreshing swimming pool.
Facilities at Hotel Atitlan include a poolside restaurant & bar, fitness center, wellness spa, private beach with boating and water skiing available, outdoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi and gardens filled with indigenous plants and flowers.
Activities at Hotel Atitlan include waterskiing and boat tips across Lake Atitlan from the hotel, as well as visits to the local villages and indigenous markets which can be found dotted along the lake shores. A huge highlight of a visit here is a trip out to Chichicastenango market, which is approx. an hour away from Hotel Atitlan and offers an exciting window into the local lives of the villagers from this region. Market days are Thursdays and Sundays.

Much bigger in comparison to the boutique hotels surrounding the lake, Hotel Atitlan is located right on the lake just minutes from the buzzling town of Panajachel. The service is brilliant and the views are equally beautiful, a great option for families with younger active children. The only thing to bear in mind with Hotel Atitlan is the decor, it may not be to everyone's taste, it does feel a little dated but the real selling points for this resort are the grounds, the views of the lakes and the range of activities that will keep kids entertained all day long.
Authentic Mayan village visit
Located in the hills above Lake Atitlan, San Jorge La Laguna is a small Kaqchiquel town that's a 10-minute drive from Panajachel, the lake's main hub.
