Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

With scorching summers, cold winters, temperate springs and pleasant autumns, Beijing and its surrounding area experiences four distinct seasons. During the summer months, the mercury can reach over 40°C, bringing monsoon rains and extreme humidity, despite being the peak season for travel. From November through to March, northern winds whip through the city, seeing temperatures tumble to as low as -20°C in January, the coldest month. Springtime is windy yet pleasant, although sandstorms from Mongolia sweep through at this time of year making outdoor sightseeing uncomfortable. The Autumn months are the perfect time to travel, with fewer tourists and the most clement weather for exploring the city.

Itinerary

Discover historical icons of Beijing in interactive ways as you hop on "diang-diang" trams and rickshaw rides, slide down through toboggan ride to the bottom of the Great Wall. Let your kids try their hands at shadow art, Chinese paper-cutting or traditional Beijing game known as diabolo.

  1. Days 1-4: Beijing

Welcome to Beijing, a city where bustling metropolis stands side by side with its ancient hutongs, palaces and temples!

On your first day, enjoy a "diang-diang tram" ride through the old Qianmen street, once a bustling commercial of Beijing centuries ago with many of its traditional culture and customs still displayed. In late afternoon, an optional 2-hour sidecar ride around the Beijing city is available at an additional cost.

As the next day beckons, we will visit two key highlights of Beijing: the Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City. In the afternoon, hop onto a rickshaw to view the alleyways and courtyard homes of ancient Beijing known as the "hutongs". Your family will have the chance to participate in hands-on activities such as Chinese paper-cut, kite-making, or learn how to play a traditional Beijing game known as diabolo. In the evening, optional Chinese Kung Fu show, acrobatic show, or Peking Opera can be arranged at your account.

For your final day in Beijing, we will visit the Jingshan Park for a panoramic view of the Forbidden City. A supplement 1-hour private kung fu class can be arranged at request.

Afterwards, enjoy a one-hour boat ride on the lake adjacent to Beihai Park, followed by a one-hour shadow art class to learn about the history of Shadow Arts and practice inking on materials. Finally, conclude the day with a visit to the Temple of Heaven.

Accommodation: Regent Hotel Beijing (3 nights)

  2. Days 4-5: Great Wall

Today, we visit the iconic Great Wall of China, constructed over 2,000 years ago and is said to be visible from space due to its massive size.

We will visit one of the relatively quieter section of the wall at the Mutianyu Section. The walk is relatively easy with restored steps. If your family is feeling adventurous, you can take a fun toboggan ride to the bottom of the wall!

Stay one night near the Great Wall in the middle of the authentic countryside village by the wall, hidden away from the tourist circuits.

The next day, transfer by private car to Beijing airport. Depending on your flight time, an optional visit to Beijing's Summer Palace may be arranged at additional cost.

Accommodation: Brickyard Retreat at Mutianyu Great Wall (1 night)
