Most dynasties who controlled this area built Great walls in north Shanxi, which were finally connected together by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of Chinese history as what we now know as the Great Wall of China. Due to lack of modern tools, the Great Wall of Shanxi built more than 2000 years go then were mostly constructed by soil.
