Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Vietnam is a long country resulting in varied weather patterns. The best time to visit the country as a whole is from January to May with the least rain in both the cultural areas and on the beach. Outside of these months it is possible to still visit and you will get some rain in the north and south from May to November and on the central coast from September to January. Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year falls in late January or early February and is best avoided as many businesses close.

Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. It starts to get wetter in May and the wettest months are September and October. It is still possible to visit during this time as rain usually falls as short sharp storms. November is a fantastic month to visit Cambodia as it is very green after the rainy season and the lakes and rivers are full of water.

Experience the romance of the East with this exciting adventure-honeymoon to Cambodia and Vietnam. Explore the crumbling ruins of Angkor Wat, stroll along cobbled streets lined with colourful paper lanterns, stargaze among the dramatic scenery of Halong Bay, toast one another in a vibrant roof bar in Ho Chi Minh City and unwind on the unspoilt beaches of Phu Quoc.

  1. Days 1-5: Siem Reap & Angkor Wat

Escape to the East together, landing in Cambodia and heading for one of Indochina’s most romantic and evocative spots, the world-famous ruins of Angkor. You will be able to stay four nights in the lively town of Siem Reap, just moments away from the ancient monoliths that make up the Angkor Complex. With your expert guide, delve deep into the furthest corners of the park, moving away from the crowds in search of the lesser-known temples. Enjoy a romantic breakfast together among the tumbled stones and soak up the electrifying atmosphere. The park is sufficiently large that there is a real possibility you will be able to stand together among the ruins of one of the world’s greatest civilisations, with no one nearby to make a sound. In the afternoon, your guide will be able to escort you to the more popular sites such as Angkor Thom, the ancient citadel and Ta Promh, the famous temple where Tomb Raider was filmed, almost engulfed by its strangler fig. And no trip to Cambodia is complete without rising before dawn to watch the sun come up over the iconic Angkor Wat and its reflecting pools. We also have included a tranquil boat trip onto Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest lake. Here you will be able to visit a traditional floating village and enjoy total silence as you soak up the sun on the private top deck together. Seasonally the water levels become too low to reach the centre of the lake and so then you will be able to take an exciting speedboat tour of the margins in a repurposed ranger’s boat, formerly used to chase down poachers.

Accommodation: Shinta Mani Angkor (4 nights)

  2. Days 5-8: Da Nang, Vietnam

Take a short flight over the border to the extensive coastline of Vietnam. Staying in a gorgeous beach resort just a short drive from the UNESCO town of Hoi An, you will be able to relax and enjoy one another’s company. Take a walk around Hoi An with your guide to discover the vibrant market and fascinating buildings of the Old Town before returning together to stroll down narrow streets lined with colourful paper lanterns, and stand on the Japanese Bridge to watch floating lanterns drift past you to the sea. There are some wonderful riverside restaurants in this historic port town, and Hoi An is also famous for its tailor shops, able to create bespoke new garments for you in just a day or two.

Accommodation: Fusion Maia Da Nang Resort (3 nights)

  3. Days 8-10: Hanoi

A quick flight north and you are in Hanoi, Vietnam’s quaint capital. Another walking tour will orientate you perfectly with the small city centre, enabling you to strike out and explore on your own. Your guide will show you key landmarks such as the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the revered former leader of Vietnam, and the perfectly formed One Pillar Pagoda, emerging from its pond like a lotus flower and arguably one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples. We recommend you spend an exciting day getting lost in the Old Quarter together, finding bizarre shops of curios and unique souvenirs. Make sure you leave time for a traditional egg-coffee in one of the dilapidated coffee shops.

Accommodation: Hotel de l'Opera (2 nights)

  4. Days 10-11: Halong Bay

An early start today to embark on the 4-hour drive (or optionally a 45-minute sea plane) to the south, to the legendary Halong Bay. Here you will board a luxurious traditional junk for an afternoon of cruising between the dramatic limestone karsts, erupting from the calm sea. Visit fishing villages or a pearl farm, and clamber inside secret caves. You will spend a night on board, perhaps taking part in a cooking class or indulging in a massage, or simply stealing away to the top deck to watch the stars.

Accommodation: Heritage Line - Violet (1 night)

  5. Days 11-14: Phu Quoc

You may wish to rise early for a Tai Chi class on the top deck or have a final swim before you head back to land, and back to Hanoi airport. Your destination, Phu Quoc, an undeveloped island in the south of Vietnam and home to long, sandy beaches overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. Relax and unwind, reflecting on your previous adventures, perhaps spoiling yourselves with a spa treatment, or taking a kayak out to sea to watch the sun set behind the horizon.

Accommodation: Fusion Resort Phu Quoc (3 nights)

  6. Days 14-16: Saigon

Eventually it’s time to start making your way home, but first you have two final nights in the electric southern city of Ho Chi Minh (formerly known as Saigon). Here you will find a plethora of restaurants, shops and lively rooftop bars, for which the city is famous. Your final guide of the trip will show you around the town, giving a local’s perspective on this hectic city that never sleeps. View the Notre Dame cathedral and the Central Post Office, and peruse the fascinating War Remnants Museum, filled with artefacts from the America – Vietnam War. Take a last wander down Nguyen Hue Walking Street to pick up some final souvenirs or share a bowl of pho in a backstreet restaurant before you head home together, full of happy memories.
