Once a tiny colonial fishing village, Trancoso retains a certain laidback charm, though its streets and the colourful ‘Quadrado’ are now lined with elegant boutiques and open-air restaurants that give it an air of barefoot luxury. Mile upon mile of golden sands stretch out, sandwiched between gentle turquoise waters and emerald-green tropical foliage that cling to the limestone cliffs.
Life in Trancoso is refreshingly slow, the days demanding nothing more than lazily soaking in the Brazilian sun, snorkelling in the warm waters, or horse riding along the beach. If you can tear yourself from the beach, stroll the charming streets of the town and feast on sumptuous seafood in the hip restaurants that line the Quadrado.
