Ambergris Caye, like most of Belize, has a sub-tropical climate. There are two seasons in Belize- winter (Mild and relatively dry) and summer (Warm and occasionally hot and humid. The official monsoon rainy season is June through August). Summers in San Pedro Town and the other Cayes strung out along the Barrier Reef are much milder than on the Belizean mainland, due to the proximity to the Sea and the cooling effects of the easterly trade winds and cloud cover which hold temperatures in the high 20's/ low 30's.
The busier time of the year for travellers to Belize is November to May, which are the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere. Still, many visitors prefer the more quiet days of the summer months from June to October for their vacation in Belize. Both times of the year have their own unique attractions.
To start planning your holiday to Cayo Espanto
Spectacularly located a short distance from Belize's Ambergris Caye, Cayo Espanto is an idyllic private island hideaway, ideally placed for excellent scuba diving in the sparkling waters of the Caribbean, just a short boat ride away.
Comprising just seven individual cabanas which are spread around a picturesque private island, Cayo Espanto offers a perfect Robinson Crusoe style experience, with powdery-white sand flanked by tropical vegetation, leading out into the bluest of Caribbean waters.
This is a fantastic option for diving enthusiasts or those looking to enjoy a beach break in total privacy, with each cabana boasting private seating areas which open out onto fabulous sea decks, where guests will find freshwater plunge pools and alfresco showers. Cabanas are rustic in style yet furnishings are luxurious with hardwood floors, Egyptian cotton bedding, air-conditioning and ceiling fans, WiFi, TVs and iPod docking stations. Villas are provided with personal staff to take care of all meals and housekeeping, with menus changing daily to suit your preferences.
Whilst there is a big focus on relaxation at Cayo Espanto, it's impossible to ignore the sparkling ocean which surrounds, a perfect playground for adventures. Diving here is world-class and trips can easily be arranged to the world’s second largest barrier reef, home to a dazzling variety of underwater life. The reef’s beauty and richness has put Belize among the top 10 dive destinations in the world. For those that don't dive, this is also a fantastic destination for snorkelling and fly fishing. Non-motorised watersports are included in your stay, including the use of kayaks, pedal boats and sailboats, whilst jungle trips and tours of Mayan ruins can be added at an additional charge.
There are seven individual cabanas with individual sea front freshwater pools, verandas and alfresco showers. Each is rustic in style but furnishings are luxurious and each comes with a team of staff to cater to your every need.
Children are welcomed but there are no specific facilities available.
Facilities include a spa for some serious relaxation and a small fitness centre. For something a little more active then peddle boats and kayaks are available for guests' use, as well as snorkelling equipment and scuba gear for those participating in diving.
A true highlight here is diving on the world’s second largest barrier reef, home to a dazzling variety of underwater life. However guests can also enjoy snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and sailing. For land based activities, yoga sessions are available and tours can be arranged into the jungle or to ancient ruins on the mainland of Belize. For a romantic experience and something totally unforgettable we can also arrange a private beach picnic on a deserted island nearby.
Camilla Greenwood (Staff)
A luxurious and polished private island experience where the atmosphere is far from pretentious; it is actually very low-key, peaceful and genuine. Cayo Espanto is located on a private island with just 7 casas, each with stuning views of the turquoise blue water, 2 staff to cater to your every need, private plunge pools, decks and piers as well as outstanding service and food. From the second you step foot on the island everything is taken care of, every detail from your menus to the music playing when you arrive at your casa is thought of. The casas are beautifully styled, with turquoise blue and fresh white finishes as well as wonderful shutters that open up the whole casa giving you a 360-degree view of the unbelievably clear blue ocean. The houses aren't what you would describe as glamorous or flashy, they are beautifully understated, rustic and incredibly tasteful. The open plan lay out and the wooden piers encourage you to roam your casa barefoot and enjoy the views of the sea from any angle, watch the sunrise from one side of your casa and the sunset from the other. For a honeymoon destination, Cayo Espanto can't be beaten. The only thing to bear in mind is the water, although the colour of it really is out of this world, it isn't particularly deep. For example it isn't deep enough to jump off the pier but it wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to swim out to the deeper water.
