Day Two: Maria Island to Freycinet Peninsula

Meet your private guide for a full-day exploration of Maria Island and the Coal River Valley. Travel up the east coast to Triabunna and cross by ferry to Maria Island National Park, a sanctuary renowned for its abundant wildlife. Walk among historic ruins, sweeping bays and fossil cliffs while observing wombats, Cape Barren geese, kangaroos and diverse birdlife. This afternoon, board a scenic helicopter flight to Saffire Freycinet, landing directly at the lodge to begin your stay on the Freycinet Peninsula.

Day Three: Freycinet Wildlife and Coastal Exploration

Begin the day with a shared wildlife and wilderness cruise along Freycinet’s coastline. Pink-granite cliffs, sea caves and sheltered coves provide habitat for dolphins, seals, seabirds and, in season, migrating whales. During your stay, Saffire’s curated program of guided experiences may include coastal walks, a visit to a working oyster farm,

birdwatching, a Tasmanian devil encounter and culinary sessions with the lodge team. Activities are scheduled according to conditions and confirmed closer to arrival.

Day Four: Conservation and Signature Experiences

Today is flexible, allowing you to enjoy Saffire’s signature experiences at your own pace. For a deeper conservation focus, join a privately guided visit to the Tasman Peninsula’s Unzoo, an innovative rewilding project dedicated to Tasmanian devil behaviour and monitoring. Track devils with expert keepers and learn how individuals are prepared for life in wild or semi-wild environments. Alternatively, choose from guided walks, coastal explorations or simply relax and enjoy the lodge’s views over Great Oyster Bay.

Tasmania has a temperate climate with 4 distinct seasons. Warm summer days from December to February and sometimes snow in the cooler months of June to September. The best time to visit Tasmania is between October and April, when the weather is at its best. By May, nights are getting cold and days are getting shorter. Winters (June-Aug), especially in the high country, can be quite harsh- though that's the best time to curl up in front of a blazing fire.
