The Blue Mountains are cooler and wetter than Sydney - typically 5-10 celsius in winter (June-August) and around 20 celsius in summer (December-February). In winter there is a small chance of snow - there might be 4 or 5 snowfalls per year, and predominantly on the mountaintops around 1000 metres. In summer it is a welcome relief from Sydney's sticky heat, and poolside loungers are in high demand. Spring and autumn can have wonderful clear days which suit outdoor pursuits; September is excellent for wild flowers.

Located in the heart of Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, Lilianfels is a traditional, rustic hotel with views across to the iconic Three Sisters rock formations.
Set in two acres of beautiful gardens, Lilianfels is in a prime location high up in the stunning Blue Mountains, yet just 90 minutes drive from Sydney. A haven for relaxation and rejuvenation, this historic country house is both stylish and comfortable whilst also boasting outstanding service.
With just 85 rooms and suites all individually decorated, this boutique property has lots of personal touches that make you feel very much at home. Whether you stay in a Deluxe Room, a Valley Deluxe Room (with stunning sweeping views) or one of the hotel's spacious Suites with separate living rooms, comfort is never overlooked and all rooms have classic, country decor adorned with antiques and rich fabrics.
Modern Australian cuisine is served in Darley's restaurant with its beautiful stained glass windows, crystal chandeliers and ornate fireplaces on the inside and breathtaking views of the gardens and valley outside. The Orangery and the Lounge offer relaxed venues for breakfast, snacks, early suppers and sumptuous afternoon teas.
The swimming pool has stunning views down over the mountains and the spa has an amazing array of treatments and packages. Whether you are a lover of gourmet food, a nature buff or simply looking for somewhere to be pampered in breathtaking scenery, Lilianfels is a hideaway with something for everyone.
Lilianfels Blue Mountain Resort & Spa has a total of 85 rooms and suites. Decorated individually in shades of lilac, green and pink and furnished in lush floral fabrics, the light and airy Deluxe Valley View Rooms and Suites all have marble bathrooms and feel like a home from home.
Lilianfels welcomes children and the surrounding region has plenty of fun and adventurous activities to offer families, however there are no specific facilities here except for babysitting which is available on request.
Lilianfels has three restaurants and bars offering guests a variety of settings and atmospheres in which to enjoy the fabulous fresh cuisine prepared by the hotel's chefs. There is also a spa designed to enliven the senses with the soothing and restorative treatments available, a gym, an indoor and 13 metre outdoor heated swimming pool and a tennis court.
There is a boundless choice of outdoor adventures at Lilianfels, from bush walking, abseiling and bike riding to canyoning, swimming, golf and tennis. You can even go 'Harley Cruising', seeing the wonders of the region from the back of a gleaming Harley Davidson, your driver/guide showing you the sights.

Lilianfells, like its sister hotel The Observatory, are rather ‘old-school’ in appearance, with chintzy fabrics and rather formal service. However, you can’t fault the location, overlooking the Three Sisters rock formations in the beautiful Blue Mountains and the house itself has a wealth of history. The food, spa and pool are also fantastic, and until Wolgan Valley came along, this was by far the most luxurious option. However, although I prefer to be a little more off the beaten track, this is ideal for people with just 1 or 2 nights to spare and want just a taster of this lovely area whilst in complete comfort.
