Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Like most California destinations, you can’t go wrong when picking a time of year to visit. Being inland, Napa Valley benefits from much higher summer temperatures than the cool coast, and is a year-round destination but best from April to October.

At the vineyards, September is typically the harvest month, although some varieties may be picked through October and November. Vineyards will be bare from December through February, with new buds returning in March and coming into full bloom by June.

Summer temperatures reach up to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and cool off to about 50 in the evenings, so you’ll want to bring a variety of clothes and dress in layers. Winter highs are around 60 degrees with lows occasionally just below freezing. The region averages around 200 days of sunshine per year, so you should have plenty of good weather to enjoy the outdoors.

Auberge du Soleil is an elegant wine country inn nestled within a 33-acre sunlit olive grove on the slopes of Rutherford Hill and surrounded by vineyards. With its unmistakeable intimacy, Auberge is a Scott Dunn favourite.

Located in the centre of the valley, just off Silverado Trail, Auberge du Soleil is an ideal retreat while exploring the famous Napa Valley wine region. Located just 65 miles north of San Francisco, Auberge guests have been drawn to the inn for its tranquillity, style and romance. A complete escape, total privacy, and the intimacy of having such a beautiful spot make the Auberge a timeless place to rest your head.

Originally established as Napa Valley’s first fine-dining establishment, it opened to acclaim in 1981 and quickly gained recognition as one of the leading and best restaurants in Northern California, not only for its superb cuisine, but also its spectacular natural setting. The pleasures of a gorgeous view enjoyed with a glass of wine and an exquisite meal invite lingering and soon the Auberge made it possible to do just that. In 1985 the Auberge du Soleil opened the inn, a collection of sun-and earth-toned rooms and suites, each featuring French doors opening onto private terraces, cosy fireplaces and sensuous elements such as private soaking tubs for two.

Auberge is as fresh and forward-thinking as it was when it first opened and pioneered a new style of laid-back luxury. Michael Taylor protégée and leading designer Suzanne Tucker has updated the resort interiors with a bright, rich look reminiscent of a secluded Côte d’Azur retreat. Under the direction of Executive Chef Robert Curry, the famed Napa Valley restaurant has earned back-to-back Michelin stars.

The Auberge Pool and Cabana, ‘La Plage’, is perfect for lounging on oversized chaises, underneath the California sun. Relax on day beds for two, sipping signature cocktails or local wines. Hotel guests can enjoy a host of poolside amenities, including WiFi and a DJ-mixed pool soundtrack, cocktails and lounge food from the restaurant.

The views from their valley suites are simply incredible. Watching the sun set from a spacious balcony overlooking the emerald green valley of Naps listening to the birds was to experience a small piece of Paradise. The generous suites and balconies with their fabulous views are a perfect place from which to explore the wineries and towns of Napa. Relax by their beautiful pool and indulge yourself over dinner as you dine overlooking the sweeping views. Their Spa is wonderful and just walking through their gardens where deer roam and quirky sculptures lie hidden around each corner - simply a fantastic hotel and run by an amazing team.

This has got to be the number 1 most romantic hotel I've ever been to! From the luscious grounds up in the hills of Napa Valley and stunning views, to the most amazing bed with at least six (non-decorative!) pillows and cute bathroom goodies, everything at Auberge du Soleil has been carefully thought of. I had breakfast in the main restaurant the next morning and although I was tempted by the Smoked Salmon Pizza, I went for the Auberge Special Omelette with Napa Ham - as incredible as the view from the table at which I ate.

This is a truly special place, and although it comes with a rather hefty price-tag, I would honestly say it is worth it if your budget can stretch - perfect for honeymoons and romantic getaways for couples looking for that something extra special for an experience to remember.

This beautiful hotel is perfect for short stays for couples. I wouldn't recommend this for families, it is such a romantic setting and with such fabulous service that I would say it is just perfect for couples. Having your base here you can explore Napa valley very easily and also head to Napa and Sonoma town. Everything is within reach.
