Antigua Mayan Textiles Tour
A full-day private tour, learning about the history, techniques, colors, styles and symbolism of Guatemala's Mayan textiles, visiting markets, museums and specialized shops with a private guide and exploring the villages that surround Antigua.
You will be met at your hotel by your private guide in the morning, heading straight out of Antigua to the surrounding villages where traditions are rich. Begin by driving out to the mountain town of Santa Maria, where the traditional Mayan dress is still regularly worn by most of the local women. From here, venture back down through the towns of San Pedro and Ciudad Vieja where you can explore the historical sites before stopping at the town of San Antonio. Here you will visit a women's textile cooperative where you can observe these skilled artists at work, watching as they use generations old dyeing and weaving techniques to produce intricate and beautiful textiles. There is also an option to visit a Macademia nut farm if this is of interest. The tour can be completely tailored to places of particular interest so please let us know if you would prefer to visit any other local towns or sites.
