Perfect blend of old and new with traditional architecture but with all the modern conveniences
Dating back to the 17th century, Aldourie Castle Estate is the only habitable castle to sit on the banks of Loch Ness. It underwent a massive renovation in 2004 to become an exclusive retreat for private parties, yet retained all of the magic of its baronial past. There are just thirteen double rooms and two single rooms set over two floors, alongside elegant reception rooms downstairs. It is very much the fairytale castle, complete with turrets, roaring fire-places, nooks, crannies, secret doors and awash with traditional and vibrant fixtures and fittings. Yet the triumph of Aldourie Castle is that it blends old and new so fantastically - expect inviting four-poster beds and modern bathrooms, yet feeling like you truly are the Monarch of the Glen sitting in your picture-perfect castle overlooking Loch Ness.
Aldourie Castle is set within a 500 acre estate, with a multitude of things to do by day. This part of Scotland is very much the 'real' Scotland - where the Highland spirit is there in all its glory. From September to January you can head off deer stalking, maybe try your hand at shooting at nearby estates, seek out a traditional Scottish links for a spot of golf, 4x4 driving, fishing and boat trips on Loch Ness. What we love is simply getting out and about on foot, breathing in the freshest of Scottish Air and looking out over some of the most remarkable views that Scotland has to offer. A team of on-site staff are on hand to arrange bespoke experiences for you and your party.
After a day out exploring, throw off your wellies, have a quick soak in your free-standing bath and head to the Red Drawing Room for a drink beside the fire. Wander into the Red Drawing Room (maybe with a bagpiper in tow) where you and your friends and sit back to traditional Scottish fare, cooked by Aldourie's team of chefs. After dinner, take your single malt for a frame of snooker in the billiards room, or just sit by the fire feeling all rather smug about you and your castle.
