Start at Pak Klong Talad, where Thailand's largest flower market fills the morning air with jasmine and roses. Aisles of blooms from across the country, the kind of sensory chaos that stays with you. Stop for a cool drink and try your hand at crafting a lotus petal offering – a small tradition that carries real meaning.
Wat Pho comes next, home to the 46-meter reclining Buddha with mother-of-pearl inlaid feet. The temple's ancient courtyards offer quiet amid the city's noise. Lunch at Phraya Palazzo, a Michelin Plate restaurant overlooking the Chao Phraya River, where Thai cuisine is done properly.
The afternoon belongs to the Grand Palace – golden spires, ornate throne halls, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred sculpture. Then onto a long-tailed boat, leaving the modern city behind for Thonburi's narrow canals. Traditional wooden houses on stilts, a different pace entirely, the kind of perspective you can't get from the streets.
Finish at Wat Arun as evening settles in. The Temple of Dawn's colourful towers catch the last light, and here you'll give alms to monks and receive a blessing. A fitting end to a day spent understanding what Bangkok actually is.
