Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Any time’s a good time to go to Singapore. Practically on the equator, Singapore is constantly warm (the temperature never drops below 20°C) and humid and gets fairly steady year-round rainfall. The wettest months are supposedly November to January, when it’s also a degree or two cooler, while the driest are supposedly May to July, but in reality there is little distinction between the seasons.

Just off the infamous shopping area, Orchard Road, stands the Shangri-La Singapore. With an impressive three wings, arguably there is something for everyone. While the Valley Wing is the most exclusive, offering unlimited champagne, cocktails and spirits for guests, with the most peaceful and spacious rooms, I thoroughly enjoyed the Garden Wing. With your own balcony or garden area (on the ground floor) you get to enjoy either city or pool views and exclusive use of the Waterfall Cafe for breakfast, which is the nicest spot.

Boasting impeccable levels of service, décor of spectacular grandeur and a fifteen-acre ornamental garden, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore is one of the group’s flagship properties and is a huge hit with couples and families alike. Accommodation is spread over three distinct wings: the contemporary Tower Wing, the Tropical Garden Wing and the luxurious Valley Wing - our top pick here at Scott Dunn. The glass walls of the lobby overlook 15 acres of tropical, botanical gardens housing more than 133,000 individual plants, flowers and trees and amidst this is the fantastic free-form pool. The property features four excellent restaurants (serving Californian, Cantonese and International and Japanese food), a bar and an afternoon tearoom and is a mere stones throw away from the world-renowned shopping on Orchard Road. The pool, comfortable accommodation and central location make the Shangri-La our top pick for families visiting Singapore.
