Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning. Southern Mozambique is warm and sunny year round with temperatures averaging 25° C in the winter months (May – August) and over 30° C in the summer months (December - March). Rain is possible from November to March, usually in short bursts. The sea temperature varies with the seasons and currents, and ranges between 22° C and 32° C.

Days 1-5: Kruger National Park
On arrival into Johannesburg you’ll connect on to a domestic flight to the Kruger, where your safari begins. Your guide will greet you and game drive you through the pristine bushveld, passing your first sightings of wildlife along the way. You’ll arrive at Jock Safari Lodge, nestled amongst woodland and a dry riverbed. Jock’s location on a private concession allows you to enjoy wildlife sightings with limited vehicles around you, as well as being able to traverse into the national park to get more sightings of big game.
The next four days are going to be action-packed as you track animals in an open game vehicle and on foot. Feel your excitement build as you come across a pack of wild dog and follow these highly intelligent, fast-paced canines and wait in anticipation for them to begin to chase. Watch a herd of jovial elephants, bathing and playing in the waterhole, just moments from the lodge. Enjoy a gin and tonic in the bush, looking out to giraffe’s silhouetted against the burnt orange sky, as the sun begins to set.Accommodation: Jock Safari Lodge (4 nights)
