Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.
The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.
Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island – it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it’s not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.
Apart from the Christmas-New Year peak, Mauritius doesn’t really have high and low seasons. The situation is more dependent on outside factors (such as the French school holidays, which cause a big increase in demand and prices in August).

Constance Belle Mare is a large but spacious resort that offers lots of dining options and has plenty of amenities to keep everyone entertained. This is an impressive hotel. Set along a stunning long white sand beach, it is arguably in one of the best locations on the East coast.
If you are looking for plenty to do, this is the place to be. This is not a boutique hotel, it is a large resort with the facilities to match. You wont find any other hotel on the island with 2 spas and 2 golf courses, as well as a kite surfing school and scuba diving centre. There is a real buzz to the Belle Mare Plage and you certainly wont be bored here. It works particularly well for families as younger and older children are catered for and there are many interconnecting rooms.
If you like the idea of all the facilities but want more privacy assured, there's a clever little option at one end. The hotel also has a selection of two and three bedroom private villas, each with their own pool and some on the beach. This area is a veritable oasis of calm and tranquillity yet still only 10 minutes away from all the facilities. There is a lot of water around so if you have little ones toddling about, you need to bear this in mind. However, this is the ideal solution if the idea of a big resort is a little overwhelming.
I liked the Belle Mare Plage for all that it offers, and it does it well. If you can afford it, go for the villas and get the best of both worlds.
