Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu makes a superb base for visiting the city’s UNESCO treasures and is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. Located within a former 1930s school building, the designers have combined heritage features with a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, to create a stylish hotel infused with tranquillity, elegance and soothing sense of harmony. The hotel benefits from a prime location in Kyoto’s historic Higashiyama district and the UNESCO treasures of Yasaka Pagoda and Kiyomizudera Temple are within easy walking distance.
Filled with natural light, the hotel lounge enjoys direct views of the Yasaka Pagoda, also known as the Hokanji Temple and is a lovely spot for a coffee or snack, while enjoying the warm and gracious service. Meanwhile, former classrooms have been transformed into 48 spacious guestrooms and suites which reflect the same clean lines, chic décor and neutral palette as the rest of the hotel. Amenities include Wi-Fi, seating area, TV, Bluetooth speaker, tea and coffee making facilities, minibar and safe. Ensuite bathrooms include double vanities, bidet, hairdryer and bathing products.
Entry level Standard King Rooms sleep up to two guests and a child under 13 years. Trade up for a Pagoda view, private terrace or den, a quiet space for relaxing and studying. Junior Suites are either Classic or Modern, with the latter showcasing chic mid-twentieth century style, or book the generously sized Panoramic Suite for unbeatable city views and large separate living area. All accommodation sleeps a maximum of three guests.
Room rates include breakfast which can be either American or Japanese and is taken in the delightfully renovated former school library. The hotel also plays host to the restaurant, Benoit Kyoto in a partnership with Ducasse Paris, which operates Michelin-starred restaurants throughout the world and serves modern bistro cuisine. A highlight of the hotel is the K36 Rooftop Bar, serving drinks and meals, alongside epic views, starry skies and an intimate vibe.
Guests can book one of three private baths during their stay, a wonderful way to relax after a day exploring. There is also a well-equipped gym for those wishing to workout. Many of Kyoto’s major attractions are within easy walking distance including Yasaka Pagoda, Nene Road, Kodaiji Temple, Kiyomizudera Temple, Yasaka Shrine and Sanneizaka.
