Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Jamaica is a year-round destination, though there are seasonal differences to consider. Weather-wise, temperature isn’t an important factor: winter is usually warm by day and mild to cool by night, and summer months are hot. The rainy season extends from May to November, with peaks in May, June, October and November. Rain usually falls for short periods (normally in the late afternoon), and it’s quite possible to enjoy sunshine for most of your visit during these months.

Itinerary

This off-the-beaten-track Jamaican itinerary showcases the natural beauty of the lush Portland parish with its many cultural experiences on offer and finishes at an elegant beach resort along the coastline at Ocho Rios.

  1. Fly to Kingston

  2. Days 1-6: Jamaica

Fly to the lively capital of Jamaica, Kingston and within half an hour you are into the lush, mountainous scenery that takes you along winding roads and through the heavy bass lines of the music coming from the local villages to the Portland parish of Jamaica. This is where Jamaicans themselves choose to holiday, away from the crowds of the larger, more developed resorts.

Arriving in Port Antonio, you'll be delighted that you made the brave step away from the norm as you pass through the lively hub of the town. Your local driver will point out the places you should explore once you have settled into your hotel, such as the local craft market and Titchfield Hill, Port Antonio's original residential area, filled with Victorian gingerbread architecture.

    Accommodation: Trident Jamaica (5 nights)

  3. Days 6-11: Jamaica

From Port Antonio, head to the more developed area of Ocho Rios. Whilst this is a developed part of the island it is a wonderfully bustling town. The beach is by far our favourite in Jamaica and service here is impeccable.

There are many activities on offer from Ocho Rios such as the Mystic Mountain, a type of open cable car that takes you on a 20-minute ride up high over the rainforest where at the top you will find a little exhibition about the Jamaican Bob Sleigh team and Jamaica's athletes. Alternatively, take a trip to Dunn's River Falls to climb the waterfall but go as early in the morning or as late as possible in the evening to avoid the larger groups.

    Accommodation: Jamaica Inn (5 nights)

  4. Fly home from Kingston
