What's Hot for 2027
2027 is about gathering the people who matter, planning around the moments that cannot be missed, and finding the quiet to savour both, from a safari villa shared by three generations to a residence at sea.
Top Travel Trends for 2027

Every Generation, One Holiday
Family holidays are no longer a compromise. The most memorable are layered, with enough depth that grandparents, parents and teenagers can each have their own version of the same journey. Settle three generations into a private safari villa in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, with room to gather or retreat. Send teenagers zip-lining through the Tsitsikamma canopy with an Adventure Architect while the grown-ups taste wine below. Float down the Nile on a private boat, everyone with a suite of their own and a deck to share. Take over Pacuare Lodge in Costa Rica for a family reunion, or trace your roots in Ireland with The Irish Genealogist and build the holiday around what they find.
-
Moments That Set the Date
For a growing number of guests, the moment comes first. A sporting fixture, a rare event in the sky or a historic anniversary sets the date, and the holiday is built around it. Watch the total solar eclipse from a boat on the Nile on 2 August, as the sky darkens over the temples of Luxor for up to six minutes and 23 seconds. Cheer on the Men’s Rugby World Cup in Australia, then stay on for the country beyond the stadium. Follow the America’s Cup to Naples in July. Stand at Adare Manor as the Ryder Cup marks its centenary, only the second time Ireland has hosted. Hear Beethoven in Vienna or Bonn, 200 years after his death.
-
Access Over Address
The next frontier isn’t more amenities, it’s fewer distractions. More guests are asking for whole estates, private yachts and places that still feel hard to find. Wake in a camp of heated pods in Antarctica, kept for one group alone, as the first emperor chicks find their feet on the ice at Atka Bay. Cross north-west Namibia on a 16-day drive, one of the last places on earth where genuine isolation is still possible. Fly by private jet into the frozen silence of Finnish Lapland, then sink into a geothermal pool beneath open skies at Deplar Farm in Iceland. Disappear to Miavana, off the coast of Madagascar, or Mt Mulligan Lodge in Queensland.
-
Cruising Gets a Makeover
Cruising is getting a makeover, and the family trend doesn’t stop at the shoreline. Hotel brands are taking to the water, and the idea behind it is private at sea: the space, privacy and intimacy of a residence afloat. Settle into an owner’s suite on Explora III while the children and teenagers head to the Nautilus Clubs. Sail from Palma to Nice aboard Amangati, Aman’s first yacht, where just 47 suites bring its stillness to sea. Cross the Panama Canal with Four Seasons Yachts, calling at Costa Rica for the first time. Then slow the pace with Rail & Sail. Ride La Dolce Vita Orient Express, then step aboard The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Ilma for Dubrovnik and Venice.
-
Closer to Home
As long-haul plans feel less certain, more guests are looking closer to home and choosing to go deeper rather than further. In Spain, paint tiles with Seville’s artisans, spend an afternoon in Granada’s Arab baths before making a perfume of your own, then explore the 16th-century cellars of Bodegas Lecea in Rioja. Head north to Finnish Lapland for a night in a glass igloo beneath the northern lights, or follow Croatia’s Adriatic coast by yacht, from Dubrovnik to Split and Rovinj. Whichever you choose, you spend less time getting there and more time in the place.

Destinations to watch in 2027
Egypt
Egypt’s story is told along the Nile, where ancient temples rise from the riverbanks and a slow cruise between Luxor and Aswan remains the finest way to travel. Beyond the Pyramids of Giza and the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, 2027 brings the longest total solar eclipse of the century, crossing Luxor in August. The Old Cataract and the Winter Palace reopen under Mandarin Oriental in July, with Four Seasons Luxor and new Nile vessels from Oberoi and Waldorf Astoria also on the way.
Australia
Beyond Sydney’s harbour and Melbourne’s laneways lies a continent of extremes: the Great Barrier Reef, ancient rainforest, red desert and some of the southern hemisphere’s finest wine regions. 2027 is a landmark year, with British Airways returning to Melbourne in January, the Rugby World Cup arriving in October, and Qantas’s Project Sunrise launching the first scheduled nonstop flights from London to Sydney that same month. Waldorf Astoria Sydney opens in early 2027.
Botswana
Botswana is safari at its most spacious. Each year, floodwater from Angola’s highlands reaches the Okavango Delta, turning it into a maze of channels and islands where elephants, lions, and wild dogs gather, and days unfold by mokoro, boat, or on foot. Private camps and guides who shape each day around every age suit three generations travelling together. In December 2026, Singita opens Singita Elela, its first lodge in the Okavango, in time for its first full season.
Chile
Chile is a country of extremes, from the Atacama’s salt flats and star-filled skies to the lakes and volcanoes of the south and the granite towers of Torres del Paine in Patagonia. In December, Explora opens its fifth Patagonia lodge in the Torres del Paine Conservation Reserve, making it easier to combine Chilean and Argentine Patagonia in one itinerary, and Awasi Patagonia opens year-round for the first time, with two new Cenit Villas from January 2027.
China
Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai remain firm favourites, from the Forbidden City and the Great Wall to the Terracotta Army and the Bund, while more guests now add Yunnan’s ancient towns and the rice terraces near Guilin. In Beijing, Six Senses is set to open a rare 46-room hotel, a small-format property for the brand in a major capital, and new Scott Dunn itineraries for 2027 focus on Chinese history, culture, and wildlife.
Finland
Lapland has two great draws: the northern lights glowing over frozen lakes and silent forest, and Rovaniemi, the official home of Santa Claus. Days are spent husky sledding and riding reindeer sleighs, and evenings end in a wood-fired sauna, as the Finns do. New easyJet routes to Kittilä and Rovaniemi make Lapland more accessible across the UK.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka packs a great deal into one island, from leopard safaris and the climb up Sigiriya’s rock fortress to tea country, best seen from the train to Ella, and a south coast of golden beaches and whale watching. It suits teenagers too, with a new Scott Dunn Teens itinerary. Direct British Airways flights from Gatwick to Colombo begin on 23 October, Uga Ghiri is newly open in Ella, and The One Group is adding hotels in Kandy and Colombo.
Tanzania and Zanzibar
Tanzania is home to the Serengeti’s open plains, the Ngorongoro Crater and Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, while Zanzibar adds the spice-scented lanes of Stone Town and long white-sand beaches. It is one of Africa’s great safari and beach combinations, and 2027 makes it easier, with new British Airways flights from May and Air Tanzania from July. Five new Zanzibar hotels open across 2027 and 2028, including the 60-villa Four Seasons Resort Zanzibar.

With 14 years’ experience in the travel industry, I’ve been fortunate to explore a wide range of incredible destinations, which has only strengthened my appetite for new adventures. For me, a great holiday strikes the perfect balance between discovery and downtime - exploring different places while still allowing time to relax and recharge. Europe is often overlooked simply because it’s so close to us here in the UK. In reality, it offers an amazing variety of experiences right on our doorstep - from the dramatic mountains and fjords of Norway and the rugged landscapes of Iceland, to the rich culture of Italy and the stunning coastline of Greece. There really is something to suit everyone.

I've always been interested in travel from a young age after several visits to Russia with school and then learning languages in university. After graduating, I moved to Moscow and took every opportunity to travel around Asia and eastern Europe.

My career in travel has exposed me to some of the most incredible travel experiences across Southern Europe & Scandinavia. Italy has a special connection for me having lived there while studying History of Art for my degree. Each Italian city has something unique and astonishing to offer; from the great ruins that comprise the Roman Forum, to the exceptional glass and carnival masks adorning Venetian shop windows. As a huge advocate of experiences and unique tours, I believe there is nothing more stimulating than immersing yourself in local cultural activities. There is so much to discover in Europe and from multiple exciting perspectives - there's something for everyone.
