Mesastila is a wonderful retreat in the heart of Java, surrounded by volcanic scenery and within a working coffee plantation. The antique villas each have their own charm and there is an abundance of traditional Javanese activities on offer and a spa.
Highlights
Located on a coffee plantation
Spa with Hammam
Stunning views of surrounding volcanoes
Daily fitness activities - jungle gym, yoga and power walking
Situated on a working coffee plantation and surrounded by eight stunning volcanoes, Mesastila has a rather unique location in the heart of Java. It is a wonderful option for those looking for a remote getaway, with a focus on wellness and distinctly Javanese experiences.
The 23 villas are scattered amongst the 22 hectares of tropical gardens and lush vegetation. Each has been reconstructed from an original Javanese antique wooden house, and is unique in style. Each is spacious, with a large living area with air-conditioning and outdoor veranda offering breath-taking views overlooking the coffee plantation or mountains. We love the Arum Villas with mountain views, the veranda is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with a good book. The Amber Villas are also a great option for families.
With such a variety of experiences on offer, Mesastila is a great option for both couples and families alike. For those that want to be active, there is a daily program of complimentary activities from yoga or a jungle gym circuits class to power walks through the surrounding villages. A coffee plantation tour is a must during your stay, learn about the various types of coffee they produce and finish the tour with a hot mug of freshly ground coffee. As the hotel is surrounded by such fantastic scenery, it would be a shame not to make the most of this – enjoy bike rides, walks or horse riding. If you want to go further afield, the famous Borobudur Temples are only 1 hour away.
If it is relaxation you are after, then flop by the picturesque infinity pool and spoil yourself at the spa which has one of Indonesia’s only Turkish Hammam baths. There is a wide range of treatments of offer from body scrubs to relaxing massages. There are even some treatments for children, so the whole family can be pampered.
There are two restaurants, each with a focus on Javanese specialities, using local and organic produce, some of which is grown in the hotel’s garden and harvested daily.
For an authentic experience in Java, Mesastila has it all.
When to visit
When you arrive book yourself into an afternoon at the Hammam spa, it’s the only one of its kind in Java. I would recommend the 'Arabian Nights' treatment.
