Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Val d'Isère boasts one of the longest ski seasons in the world because, unlike other resorts above 1800m, 80% of the skiing happens above 2000 metres. As a result, early and late season offer reliable great conditions. Being high, it is cold though and we think March and April are the best times to visit Val.

The Christiania is one of our favourite family hotels and it makes for a great family holiday. The hotel offers a children's menu and, during school holidays, the children’s corner is open in the evenings from 5.30pm-9.45pm for 5-10yr olds. Activities include painting, modelling games, discovery games, cartoons and films.

Scott Dunn pioneered skiing holidays with childcare, allowing parents the freedom to ski whilst their children are cared for impeccably by our nannies. Our handpicked childcare team are qualified professionals, whose enthusiasm and nurturing abilities are in abundance, so much so that both parents and children often ask to take them home. In Val d’Isère we have our exclusive Explorers kids club , which gives our hotel guests the freedom to ski all day, whilst your children have a holiday too. We look after children from as young as four months, with age appropriate activities and a collection service to and from ski school. A nutritious lunch is served each day, as well as healthy snacks, with any dietary requirements taken into account and your child’s routine will be strictly adhered to. We can also provide a wide range of equipment for babies and toddlers on request, including nappies and wipes, usually free of charge. And if you’d like to go out in the evening, we can provide babysitting.

Explorers kids club

Run by qualified nannies, our purpose built kids club in Val d’Isere is available exclusively to Scott Dunn guests and is open seven days a week. Each day promises an imaginative and entertaining programme of both indoor and outdoor activities, so parents can spend the day on the slopes knowing your children are in expert hands. Snacks and lunches are freshly made each day and we also operate a driver service that can take your children to and from ski school.

Babysitting can be arranged in the evenings and is chargeable by the hour (€20 for the first hour, then €10 per hour until midnight, and €20 per hour thereafter).

The hotel restaurant serves a delicious breakfast buffet, with lots of options to fill you up before a day on the slopes. Lunch can be taken on the terrace with magnificent views of the Joseray valley. In the evening, the restaurant offers a fantastic half board menu, with a starter buffet, a choice of main course, and an extensive dessert buffet, not to mention the cheese trolley. The bar offers a wide range of hot and cold drinks, aperitifs, after-dinner drinks and numerous cocktails.

The indoor swimming pool is surrounded by large glass windows bringing in lots of natural light. The Wellness area includes a sauna, Hammam, small fitness room and a beauty centre using Sothys cosmetics and offering a range of relaxing and therapeutic massages. The hotel's concierge service is friendly and efficient.

Open daily from 9.30am - 12pm and from 3.30pm to 8pm. Children can use the pool during spa opening hours.

Val d’Isère is a mecca for downhill skiing for good reason. It has enough to keep skiers of all standards challenged and entertained for a lifetime, let alone a week. The off piste potential is limitless and the snow record enviable.

Val d'Isère has plenty to offer less enthusiastic skiers too. The Centre Aquasportif has fantastic facilities including 2 swimming pools, climbing wall, multi activity sports hall, fitness suite, gym, squash courts and a Wellness area with sauna, steam bath, spa, cold baths and hydro-massage.

Designated walking trails are a great way of appreciating the scenery and there is an ice rink, husky riding, parapenting, skidooing, cross country skiing and much more.

There is a wealth of quality restaurants in the village and on the mountain (many of which are accessible to non skiers). The shops and galleries offer some great shopping (both the window and the real varieties).

Winter Party - April 2016 (Guest)

Rob the resort manager is superb - always helpful, always interested. The hotel was brilliant - even better than we had hoped. The staff are incredible - nothing is too much trouble, friendly, polite and attentive.

Located in the heart of Val dIsere, the Christiania is only 100m for the slopes, a fantastic location whether you are going skiing or exploring the town. The hotel has a cosy lounge area, with lots of sofas and a large fire pit which is prepared ready for guests after a long day on the slopes. The hotel is very child friendly and in peak weeks has a supervised playroom should parents want to enjoy a quiet drink at the bar. Children are also welcome in the hotels wellness centre. The swimming pool is surrounded by large glass windows, great for bringing in lots of natural light.

Hotel Christiana is a great choice for a family holiday they just get it so right! With excellent rooms choices for families of all sizes, there really will be no arguing over who gets the 'best' bed. The team here at the Christiania really make the holiday special ensuring that all of your needs are meet, and even keeping an eye on the children while you eat your dinner in their children's playroom. My highlight here is of course the fact that the slopes are only a short stroll from the hotel meaning and easy trip in the morning for the children's ski school.

Jenny James (Staff)

The Christiania has an amazingly friendly atmosphere, from the moment you arrive you are looked after. The hotel is perfect for families who like to enjoy time together, children are welcome in the spa and the dining room. They also have a children's room with toys, DVD's and games. The location of the hotel could not be better, close proximity to the town and shops and at the foot of the nursery slopes and main lifts.

Jules Maury (Staff)

Waking into the Christiana I was immediately assailed by the warmth of the greeting from both the staff and the fantastic fire which dominated the cosy lounge seating area. The wonderful ambience of the lounge bar and restaurant area make you feel immediately as if you are a guest in your own home, nothing seemed too much trouble for the smiling, helpful staff. Cosy seating areas with an open fire, a fabulous little bar and a restaurant rich with wood and warm colours make it difficult to move to your more than comfortable bedroom! Spoilt for choice with a selection of accommodation ranging from family apartments, inter-connecting rooms and suites, the rooms and bathrooms were all beautifully appointed with excellent amenities and some with views out over the mountains. We had a delicious meal looked after by the ever vigilant Head waiter and could not decide whether dinner was the highlight or the wonderful buffet breakfast served the next morning whilst looking out over the mountains in the morning sun.

This is a family run hotel where you feel you are being looked after by the owners themselves, nothing is too much trouble and sitting in front of their roaring fire after a long days skiing sipping a glass of the excellent local wine before wandering down to their Spa for a swim or massage is a great way to end a day in the Alps. Wonderful for couples or families, the central location, great facilities and cosiness of the Christiania make this a fabulous choice in Val dIsere.

Fiona Bickmore (Staff)

This is our most family friendly hotel in Val d'Isere. The Christiania offers a reliable service, superb facilities and a large selection of connecting and family rooms. A lot of the rooms have been recently re-decorated (superior categories) so request these if you can. Val d'Isere offers a wide range of slopes suitable for all levels. It is always popular with Scott Dunn guests as we have our own Scott Dunn children's club in the resort too.
