Chateau de Fonscolombe

Those in search of a carefree life in the sun, need look no further than Château de Fonscolombe, painstakingly restored to all its 18th century grandeur.

Provence, South of France, France
Chateau de Fonscolombe
  • Enjoy life as an 18th century aristocrat amid the salons and gardens of this superbly restored château

  • Stroll among the fragrant Provençal flowers and herbs in the French garden

  • Doze by the outdoor pool while enjoying the hospitality of the summer bar

  • Find a spot on the shady terrace to sample a glass of the estate’s signature wine

The sumptuous salons, attractive park and gardens, accomplished cuisine and concierge service conspire to ensure a delightful and leisurely Provençal stay.

The result of 50 artisans working to restore the building to all its former glory, Château de Fonscolombe will appeal to those who enjoy the finer things in life. Chinese silk wallpaper, impressive chandeliers and regal furniture have restored the salons to reflect their noble past, while pale paints and vibrant fabrics add a sprinkle of modern seasoning. The atmosphere is leisurely and lends itself to a game of backgammon, sampling the estate’s wines or playing the baby grand piano.

The scented gardens are a feature, as is the beautiful parkland in which the château sits, where you can enjoy playing tennis and pétanque, indulge in a picnic or take a bike ride.

There are 50 rooms and suites to choose from. Rooms range from Classic to Prestige and sleep up to two people, with terracotta-tiled floor, sunlit windows, yoga mats and views over the garden or courtyard. Furnishings are fresh, modern and comfortable. Suites sleep between three and four people. Sleeping up to three, Prestige Suites are in the most historic part of the castle. Families can book a Family Junior Suite, located in the castle’s outbuildings, which sleeps up to four. Children are welcome and the hotel is pet friendly.

Modern Provençal cuisine is served in L’Orangerie, where the floor-to-ceiling windows afford fabulous views across the gardens and surrounding forest. The menu is seasonal, showcasing the best of southern French produce, while some vegetables and herbs come from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. The extensive wine list includes all the wines produced by the estate and private tastings can be arranged.

After a long day relaxing or exploring, the lounge bar invites you to sink into deep armchairs for a pre-dinner cocktail or post-dinner cognac. Alternatively, you can revitalise in the fitness room, before relaxing in the hammam and spa. When the weather is fine, the outdoor pool and summer bar are a delightful place to while away the time.
